Yeah im using it right now, pretty good, not 100% pleased with it yet though, i dont have a DVX myself so the 24fps thing aint a big deal to me. Its a good version. Just wish you didn't have to render effects for crawling and scrolling titles

I just installed it. I have a new project coming up that I'm shooting with the DVX and I will post some follow ups once I've tried the new avid.

I was contemplating Avid Xpress Pro also. I'm really curious to here more.

Skettalee, you say you are not 100% pleased with it? What do you mean by that?

Avid Xpress Pro shops with installers for both Windows XP and OSX.

Sorry - there are just things in the XP operating system that are needed for performance and DV communication.

just do a duel boot for xp and dont have it connect to the internet. i use two swappable drive bays, one i use to switch out os's (from my normal xp use, and trimmed down no internet and minimal background apps ), the other for diffierent storage drives.

AVID Xpress product line literally suck!!!

Very unstable software and extremely buggy. Lots of compatiblity issues with other transcoder devices and timecode related problems.

My company bought several of these AVID Xpress systems in both Mac and PC based machines and we also have several MEDIA COMPOSER systems as well. And I'm telling you folks this because of hardcore field experience - their stuff does not work. There are several posts on the web out there including AVID-L about frustrated AVID Xpress DV and Pro users who absolutely hate the product. And AVID will not do anything about this and so folks don't invest your hard earned money into that product line. We've have been using these for months and yet we've NOT been able to output a show.

We've had several AVID ACSR's (avid certiified reps) come here to solve our problems and even they're baffled. It's a total joke, we ultimately ended up switching to final cut pro 4 and since then we've have had NO Problems whatsoever. Apple truly has a rock solid.

Can you be more specific about the problems encountered that just cannot be fixed or work? I know plenty of shows, films, etc. that are working just fine. In order for anyone to help, you would need to provide a bit nore detail other than a love for FCP. I read plenty of posts for FCP, Vegas, and every other NLE and all of them have problems in one way or another or how they are trying to be used.

But if you are happy with FCP, good for you, you should be able to provide contructive feedback on the FCP forum.

Hello folks. Got a question concerning Avid Pro... I don't necessarily have a "supported" system - i kinda put it togetther myself, but it's running XP with SCSI drives and half a gig of ram.

when i try to capture in Pro through the firewire, I don't get anything... could it be that I have an "unsupported" firewire card?

Hmm, it hard to say what the problem might be. When you conenct the camera at the desktop level (without Xpress Pro running) does the OS see it?

Hey, Mike

Yes, the OS sees the camera no problem. Premiere can see it as well - only when i try to capture within Avid do i have problems

i saw somewhere on the avid site that you need a specific firewire card ... can 't recall the name and brand right now... but i'm sure i don't have that card installed.

What else could it be?

p.s. thanks for the quick response

Avid expects the card to be OHCI compliant. I'll check on the brand name that passed testing.

@MadCow: just try XP AntiSpy!
http://www.xp-antispy.org/

With that tool you should be able to disable (yeah my writing sucks ;o) all or most of these strange "spy" connections etc.
Besides that - you should of course always use the "old" mplayer2 (or more exact 6.4) ... just go to "Start / Run" and type in "mplayer2" and there you go... the newer versions are much slower and have many more problems/bugs ... -> crap ;-P
(or use an alternative player like bsplayer / zoom player / or mpc - media player classic!)

Cheers,
