I have now tested and calculated the speed of the rolling shutter on the FS100. I have previously used the same method to test the AF100 and a variety of other cameras. I only tested 24p, and these values WILL be different for the other modes without doubt.

AF100 1080p24 - 14.85ms
FS100 1080p24 - 15.0ms

After multiple tests, the rolling shutter is almost identical between them with the AF100 being a TINY bit faster. FS100 is a little faster than EX1.

If you want to see other values related to a bunch of DSLR cameras and a few other CMOS cameras (look in the comments for RedMX results) take a look at the link below. Needless to say, the rolling shutter is MUCH faster than the DSLR cameras in 1080p. It is VERY usable.

Also, I made a comment on another thread that the FS100 felt a little faster. After thinking about it, the answer was quite clear. I was using the same lens on both cameras (85mm F1.4 Bower) and because the AF100 is cropped more, it acts more telephoto than it would on the FS100. Telephoto lens cause the rolling shutter effect to show sooner because the speed of which things can move across the frame with such a tight lens. The wider the lens, the less you will see the rolling shutter effect.

I just editing the original post, I forgot to put the link! I am using the same method as Adam Wilt and he has shared with me some files to do this easily. In addition, I've compared my results to his when we tested the same cameras and the results were the same.

Thanks for measuring this, Rick. I noticed the FS100 (and AF100) are much better than the DSLRs (the 5D2 is really bad). The rolling shutter does exist on the FS/AF, but it's far far less noticeable and much easier to correct than the DSLRs. They did a good job with it.

No problem. I've done it enough times now that I really don't even have to think about it. If someone wants to send me an Alexa I can test that too :P Haha. Next up will be some aliasing tests.
