Ok. I got Xpress Pro to see my camera and capture from it. Now i want to do a Digital Cut and/or make a DVD. Problem is when i go to the menu items to accomplish this, they are greyed out... "send file"... "Digital Cut" all greyed out.

What's the deal?
Confused

You need a Mojo to ouptut back to DV or analog as it is used to insert the continous 2:3 pulldown.

Ok. Am i to understand that i can NOT in any way shape or form export a 24p project from Avid Xpress Pro back to tape without shelling out an ADDITIONAL 1700$ ???

There's gotta be a way....

Export 24p QT reference, open in After FX using the Avid QT codec, render with a 2:3 pulldown into a 29.97 sequence/movie and import the resulting file into a 30i project in Xpress Pro. Audio can be exported as a flattened WAV file and imported in the same project. Create a 2-pop frame reference at head and tail for a sync check.

I export as a QT reference and have Procoder do the 3:2 pulldown as I encode.

DV Film Maker for US$99 (http://www.dvfilm.com/maker/index.htm) will also insert a 2:3:2:3 pulldown into a 24p quicktime if none of your current toolset will do so.

And Marcus van Bavel at DVfilm is a cool guy. By the way he is totaly into the DVX100. Very helpful. And his book is great! 8)

ok... i've tried everything and i still can't export to tape... can someone lay it down REAL SIMPLE like for me...? just imagine that i have no idea what i'm doing. :(

Let me just say that i have a 16:9 project in xpresspro... i export as a 4:3 QT reference (cause doing it otherwise gives strange aspect ratios) and in After Effects, my settings are as follows:
www.hypegnosis.com/settings.jpg

When i go back to xpresspro, the aspect ratio is correct but the clip doesn't preview - i can scrub the timeline and see the clip but when i wanna play i only hear audio, the video is like stop motion... and i looks to me that the quicktime exported from AE is of lesser quality than the original in xpresspro.

hope i've been clear enough to get aid with this problem.

BTW, killer forum!!

"Export 24p QT reference, open in After FX using the Avid QT codec, render with a 2:3 pulldown into a 29.97 sequence/movie and import the resulting file into a 30i project in Xpress Pro."

... So the result will look the same as will do with the mojo?

I ve never use after effects. Has to be the latests version of it. I had the 5.5. Will it work or i need another version? I am a pal user if thatīs matter

So, in your opinion... Which software is the best for DVX. I am gonna buy the camera and so far i īve been working with avid. Should i change?

If you are working in PAL, there is no need to worry about 2:3 pulldown since the camera is 25p.

But if you render 2:3 in After Effects, it will be the same as a Mojo except for the fact that Mojo inserts the pulldown in real time (as well as preserve the real time effects) rather than do this as a render.
