What is the Accessory shoe plate for?

I can't seem to put it on. It doesn't want to stay. I have a field monitor I want to attach to the shoe of the FS100 but the manual says to put the Accessory shoe plate first.

I haven't used it yet, but I thought you just slid it in, then whatever you wanted on the shoe, and the lock it down.

Just tested mine. You slide it in from the front on the shoe that the handle usually slides into. If you are using the one on top of the handle, you don't need it.

I just installed mine, but I did it from the back slide (closest to the LCD), you press the bottom up and the two tabs down and it snaps into place. The arrow indicates the direction you install from. Works great!

My question is, "WHY?".

I NEVER intended to use their handle, EVER, so for me it's not problem. The piece locks in. But I agree, could have been a better design.

While there are plenty of other mount points, I just don't see why it would be necessary to loss the quarter 20 mount point in the shoe.

You can take the piece back out.
