What do you do if you lost your dongle for Avid Pro? A friend at work told me he accadentily threw it out. It's a long stupid story that I don't want to imbarass him with here. How much will that cost him? Does he have to spend another $1800?

You need to call Avid to discuss the situation. For the most part, it is difficult for a company to hand over a replacement dongle no matter how trustworthy the customer may be. That is why facilities and others buy INsurance for the value of their products. In this case, the Insurance company would cover the cost of the dongle.

Call either inside sales, or customer support at 800 800 AVID.

Thanks for the help I'll pass it on. I think he's SOL.
Who would you get the insurance through? What would you call a policy that would cover stuff like that? I don't even have my camera covered. I never really thought about it because I mostly use it for personal stuff. I guess I could ride it into my home owners policy.

You can add it to your home owner's policy or even car insurance if you work from your car a lot when shooting (camera gear). I have my editing systems at home under the home owner policy to cover theft, fire, etc. of My Adrenaline and XPress Pro laptops etc.
