View Full Version : HVX200 or VariCam Footage?
http://panasonic.biz/sav/p2/sample/countdown.wmv (Save before playing)
After the HVX200 3D Model tour is over, you hear "The countdown to the future has begun", then you see some footage. One of the shots shows someone holding what appears to be a HVX200 (I'm guessing it must be a HVX200 as it would be odd to show a DVX100 in a HVX200/P2 trailer). You see some very beautiful footage taken on a tripod. Is this our first glimpse of HVX200 footage or is this VariCam footage?

(again) NO! The tapes will ONLY record SD DV.
You can record to P2 first and then do downconversions to tape in camera, but the tapes will still only ever be regular 'old DV25mbps

When downconverting from the P2 cards to DV Tape, will it keep the 4:2:2 color sampling resolution, or will it as well be dumped down to 4:1:1 with the 5:1 compression?

Well as the MiniDV tape apparently only holds regular DV it has to conform the the stnadard.. which is 4:1:1 (or 4:2:0 for us PAL folks)
but lets not take this thread off topic.

When down converting from the P2 tape to the DV tape you get 4:1:1 and 5:1 compression.
And no I do not believe this footage was shot with the HVX. Not sure what it was shot with, as it was done in Japan.
I have a meeting with thwm tomorrow I will see if I can find out.
Best regards,
Jan
In Japan, they have offered sample DVDs in quantity of only 100s, for free.

(Notice the banner on top left corner, it reads AG-HVX200 Promotion DVD give away)

Then the picture of the DVD.
I believe it's the same footage as WMV we can get online, but I applied anyway - and I'm pretty sure I'm one of the firsts who did !
Hope it comes with some sample HVX200 footage ;-)
I'll let you all know if that's the case, fingers crossed.

no 1080p in the description again ......
That's because it records 1080p to a 60i stream!

It actually said 1080P in the description right after 1080i, if you look again.

My understanding is that when shooting 24p in 1080, it inserts a pulldown (not sure if 2:3 or 2:3:3:2), and then records 1080 in 60i - similar to what DVX does in SD. So, technically it's not 1080p, although it will look like it is.

It's not laid down as 1080p, but it's shot 1080p/24. You will get EXACTLY the image out the other end as you would have if you had of shot "true" 1080p. Once the pulldown removal (Is that the right term) is done.

Where did you sign up? When I click on the DVD image, it just returns me to the same page.

And no I do not believe this footage was shot with the HVX.
Is that even possible? When brought up at the DVX user meeting on Monday, you indicated that you weren't sure what resolution the CCDs were going to be; that it was something still in discussion. Is there a working model of the camera in Japan?

On the above link, a form was there but now it says all the 100 DVDs are gone..

Not sure about that, but the sales rep I talked on the phone (a week or two before NAB) also said they had still been fiddling with the specs.
AND, there *could* be MORE surprises we don't know YET.
I was definitely told one more thing that I didn't post here, which wasn't mentioned at all @NAB.
I think i'd better ask the guy about that again.
Or could be just my misunderstanding.
Anyway I really hope they could push the specs as high as it can go before it gets finally released.
