MichaelP,

First: Thanks for all your effort here. I have learned a great deal 'lurking'.

I would like to capture 30p from my DVX but Express Pro seems to limit me to interlaced. I thought that Express Pro supported this, maybe I am wrong; maybe I have an incorrect setting. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance. Oig

Xpress Pro does not have a native 30p project type. 30p capture type in a 23.976p project is coming with the next release this summer. It will play nack as 24 resulting in a 20% slomo.

Hi gang,

I'm a Premiere Pro user reading some of the discussions on the other editors cause I'm looking for an upgrade. This thread raises a question I had about the Avid Xpress Pro.

I tend to shoot in 30P, and when I import the footage into Premiere (which I generally capture with Scenalyzer) I can "interpret" the footage as progressive. i.e. The project is interlaced, and is going to output as interlaced eventually to NTSC... but for the purposes of editing it treats the footage as progressive (which comes into play when doing tranforms... generally cropping or shifting things around a touch as I tend to do).

So I guess what I'm wondering from one of ye Avid users out there is if it's possible to do such an "interpretation" of the footage in a 30i project to get proper transforms and such from 30p footage.

I was also looking at Liquid Edition cause it's got some really nice color-correction stuff... but doesn't support the DVX's 24Padvanced mode yet, nor does it allow you to interpret DV footage as progressive (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks

You can capture 30p into a 30i project, but all effects with borders will be done on a 1/60th of a second rather than 1/30 which is what you are after. Blend type effects don't matter (dissolves, supers, fades, keys, etc.) Just effects where there are edges that can be seen such as hard edge wipes, moving picture in picture etc.
