I have been trying to make a quick time movie using the tickable button "Use Avid DV Codec" but it breaks the picture into a thousand little blocks with the picture scattered. Also when I do a digital cut back to the DVX, the same thing happens.

Any ideas whats going on here?

If working in 24p, you need a Mojo to go back out to DV tape (pr client monitor, etc.). As far as QT is concerned, are you creating a QUickTimne reference movie or encoding as QUicktime self contained straight from the application? Try a QuickTime reference movie and look at it in MoviePlayer to see if it has the same issues.

No - I dont get the same problems with a QTR movie. Thanks Michael. But why is it that I can use the Avid DV codec with a QTR but not a rendered QT movie...!

And do I need a mojo for 50i or 25p? The clips I was digital Cutting was 50i and it keeps breaking up... I was just wanting to test capturing from DV to my avid, editing and then laying back to tape so I could get the local lab to run off multiple VHS's (when the project dictates).

WOuld I still have the same problem if I was digital cutting to a deck and not the camera? or would I still need a mojo?

You shouldn't need a Mojo for 25i, 25p or 30i as long as all the effects are rendered. This would be the same behavior as in Xpress DV. The Mojo allows all the effects to stay in real time.

As far as using DV codec, I think this mainly applies to the QT reference, when encoding as a self contained QuickTime, there is no need for the codec to be present for the decode process.

Thanks again Michael - I was beginning to wonder if my head was screwed on right... So why do you think Im having trouble doing a digital cut to the dvx from the avid? It is a supported camera as far as I can gather.
