Here is the latest project we shot with the AF100. All shots are from the AF100, except for the tight cutaways on interviews, that is a GH1, and there is one interview in the film we did not shoot that I think was an HVX200.

Looove the interviews. Do you have any BtS pics, or lighting specs/diagrams?

Thank you. No bts pics sorry. All the interviews were shot relatively simply, using a Cool Lights 600 LED through a softbox as a key, a reflector as fill, and a pepper 100w for accent lighting in the background and a CL 256 LED as a hair light if the location permitted. And also often used natural light where possible. I find the AF100 makes it easy to get nice looking shots without tons of lighting.

That's exactly the kind of info I was looking for, thanks :)

It is a great film. Which lens you used on the GH1?

What lenses used (still on the lumix 20mm and Minoltas?)

Used a variety of lenses on this. All interviews shot with a Minolta 50mm 1.4, and 50mm 1.7. Then B-roll shots were either the Lumix 14-140mm, the Lumix 20mm, and a few with the Lumix 7-14mm.

very nicely shot. obviously the cool light 600 works well for interviews, but how close are you having to place it to the interviewee?

thanks

Thanks. It does work well in most situations. In a scene that has no or little window light in the background, I would say we can place it 6 feet away and still get good light. In some of those shots that have a stronger window in the background, we have to place it closer, probably 3 feet. I've never had a subject complain about how close the light is, as it's quite soft when coming through the softbox and not hot at all, and we can still get a decently wide shot. If the light were say 25% stronger I think I would be even happier.

Thank you. I secretly like audio more than video... Not really but I love getting good audio and especially good sound design. Not alot of opportunity for it on this project though.

Very nicely done!

Love the 3 shot interviews in the intro- WS, CU, b-roll. The CU of Dr. Schlegel seems a bit high (looking down)- is that because of the window behind him?
I like the contrast of the interviews on tripod and handheld b-roll. The 7-14 is a nice touch.

Lovely lighting, and the Pepper provides a perfect warm accent.
How do you use a softbox with the LED?

Are you still using HDNorm and Norm 2?

Another great project (I loved the Wall Street piece!).

Fantastic work.
Next time you do a shoot like this you should try to sneak in a second to get some BTS shots of your lighting setup - I know I'd love to be able to see the whole set.

Interviews looked great, and yes - they sounded great too.
Good job.

Thanks for the compliments Grove and Luis! I can't remember exactly on Schlegel, but it would likely have to do with the window behind him, or perhaps another obstacle. It was a pretty small empty office that was being used for storage, so it was super tight.

I love the 7-14, but it's easy to go overboard with it, I had to reign myself in sometimes.

The Cool Lights 600 has a softbox specifically made for it, it just pops right on.

All these were HDNorm and Norm 2. Honestly I have been afraid to stray as I've now shot so much solely with those settings. I do need to try out some others.

I will try to take some bts shots on the next shoot we have coming up in a couple weeks.

We are also producing a fully independent short doc about a really interesting subject. It won't be done for a few months (ahh unpaid work) but I am able to do a lot more creative shooting & editing with it, and it's 100% AF100. I'll post here when done. If I get some time this weekend I can post a few grabs.

What audio setup did you use? Mics? Mixer? External recorder or just into the AF100?

Sounds and looks great! Slick and well done!

That sounds a 'review' comment.

We use the internal audio recording, but run it all though a Sound Devices 302 with an AKG Blue Line CK93 hyper boomed from the top. Sometimes we also use a Sennheiser ME2 lav hardwired. I prefer the sound (and look) of just the CK93, but sometimes in certain situations the lav will help, and a mix of both can give a nicer sound.

So I finally took a photo of our lighting setup, and there is a write up (http://eidolonfilms.wordpress.com/2011/05/19/three-point-lighting-for-interviews/) of it on our blog if anyone interested.
