In Avid Xpress Pro, if I shoot in standard 24p, can I mix this footage with footage shot at 60i? Any concerns in doing so?
When editing standard 24p footage, is it better to use 24p resolution or 29.97?
Thanks!

If you are going to mix frame rates and raster, you are better served doing this in a 30i project (29.97). The resolutions is the same - DV25 for either 24p or 30i, the difference is in frame rate and raster (progressive or interlace). You can capture 60 field material into a 24p project by lying to it, but the field motion will look like total crap becuase it was not progressive to start with.

What do you mean by "lying" to it? Can you digitize 60i into a 24p project?
I want to use 60i to create slo-mo shots.
Thanks

You can lie to it by saying it is 24p ADVANCED footage by going to the FIlm/24p settings and selecting "A" frame for 00:00:00:00 in the "set pulldown phase to timecode relationship" setting. This tells the system to not look for flags and capture anyway. It may not work for what you are trying to do since it will create progressive frames from the interlace while dropping some.
I would create those effects in a 30i project and then ecport/import into a 24p project.
Thanks for the info 8)
I have read on this board that a 60i shot slo-moed at 40% would give the best results. If I take a 60i shot and slow it down in After Effects using a 30 frame per second sequence. Add frame blending and render the project with 3:2 pulldown (with a WWSSW cadence) will I achieve a good slo mo? If not, could you recommend a better course of action using avid and after effects.
Thanks
