So they will ship end of may! Sigh. Was told July/August and went and purchased the AF100 to hold me off till then. What to do now.

Yes, this information is accurate and Ablecine is taking pre-orders with a $500 deposit. I am about #16 in the pre-order list. I worked through Matt Livingston and he's been great so far.

Is it refundable?

Just call and talk to them to make sure I heard properly! :) Of course, I did all the interaction on the phone because I had a few other questions as well. Regardless, welcome to the pre-order club! :)

Thanks! Initially I was going to just get the fs100 but once Juan Martinez told me with passion a July release date I thought to myself that's too long for me in the event field to keep working with my dslr as the main cam. Sprang on a AF100 to hold me over till the end of July/August and now I hear it's ready for the end of May -__- gracias Juan! Do you think anyone will be interested in a AF100 for $4,2k in later this month?

Rick Burnett

I have no doubt that people will be interested in the AF100, I have one as well. I've already received a few inquires about it. Whether I stay with the AF100 or stay with the FS100 will involve a lot of testing. I do know my AF100 very well and I am really happy with it for 95% of the stuff I have done. My issues have been the size mostly as a lot of my support gear works better with a less tall camera. Both cameras really excel at different things and I think people wanting a camera that is just easier to use in general are going to go with the AF100. The FS100 has some strangeness to it that I think some people will just be turned off by. I'm 6'4" so LCD on top is fine by me!

Well I'm 5'8" and it'll definitely be a problem for me. I'm 90% happy with the AF100. I love the ND-filters. It was so nice being able to shoot on a sunny day this past weekend with ISO200 ND-3 on 2.8 an 1/125 shutter. I don't want to think what the FS100 would've been. Probably ISO800 2.8 1/8000. I'm looking forward to the FS100 despite it. Having the lowlight sensitivity and wideness with my 17-50mm lens is more of a priority for me. I'll figure out ND Filters later.

I was in the same situation this weekend shooting at a gun range. The ND was so nice. I am looking right now at solutions. I've been trying to find a company that makes snap on ND so I can move them on and off quickly, like, if you grasped the filter it disengaged from the lens (like a lens cap almost), but not finding anything. Best thing so far is the rectangular ND holders.

If you find anything, be sure and post and let us all know. If there's a
good ND solution, I may just have to jump on the FS100 bandwagon.

Yeah, one vendor says late May, the other July. We'll have to wait and see who's first.

This is most likely a no-brainer for most. But I would like to hear your thoughts. Im very interested in this cam, planned on buying it when it's released. Though I didn't expect it to be released so quickly. Two days ago I bought a gh2, and several weeks ago, I bought a t3i, Do you guys think I should sell them along with an xha1 dof rig, and buy this. I have a pristine set of FD lenses, I plan on using for it. So my question is, Keep and use 3 cams, or sell and use one cam. I do like using the different tools for different situation, But I think the fs 100 would excell at any and all situations I throw at it, and better than the three cams I listed above. What are your thoughts?

I think you answered your own question - the FS100 does what all 3 of your cameras do, and then some. Unless you take still pics, of course.

Rick, is Able Cine absolutely certain they'll get a shipment of FS100s in late May?

Your right, The stills aspect was about the only reason I was trying in my mind to justify, But honestly, I dont shoot stills for any other reason than documenting my family. I have never charged for stills, and am not anywhere near the level to start now. Moving images is a different story. This is how i make a good part of my income. So yeah, looks like I will be selling some cams. thanks

I just got an email from B&H and they are now accepting pre-orders. Of course, you have to pay the full price when you put in the pre-order and I did not see any confirmation of delivery dates.

Good choice from Sony. They need to compete directly with AF100. So many people out there having money to spend not bothering with all the technical specs (not that i'm saying AF100 would be a better camera, for that matter).

Ablecine said that end of May is what Sony said to them, of course, that could change depending on Sony, so I don't know what the confidence level they have is. You could just give them a call and find out.

I've seen a bunch of small matte boxes that accept filters but I just don't have a desire to use a matte box. I want my camera as light as possible and small. That said, that is a cool little hood you've found! :)

They (B&H) told me that too. I can't tell if the people taking orders just haven't gotten updated, or if Abel really has some kind of inside line. I am hoping it's just the former.
