pd170 or dvx what to buy

Hi,

I have to make a choice between buying the Sony pd 170 or the dvx.. the Sony is 2 thousand dollars cheaper in Australia.. but I like idea of getting away from the video look.... is it worth the extra money ?

The difference in PAL is not so much the frame rate as they are both 25fps, but the fact that one is progressive and the other is interlace. The "video" look comes from motion being sampled at 1/50th of a second versus 1/25th of a second with progressive. Also, the progressive capture will give you the full vertical resolution.

Other than that, the differences come down to the control the camera gives you over the image - many of these can be done in post, but require processing versus having it in camera.
