Hi all,

I have just purchased a FW RS250 Avid Media Drive. Problem is I cant seem to capture to it from the DVX100 without crashing the system.

I have followed Avids installation guides and my system recognises the drive. I can even move media from my internal to the avid drive and edit in Xpress Pro. I have the camera hooked to one firewire card and the drive to another so that they are on different Bus' (is this correct?). And I have tried different configuration of the connections. But nothing works. It crashes the system every time I try to capture.

Helpppppppppppppp.....

What OS system are you on and what is the configuration of the drives etc.?

Hi Michael,

Im on Windows XP Pro, Xpress Pro 4.3.1, System drive (C:/), 80 gb internal HDD (where the XPP resides) and the rS250 firewire for media.

The system has two built in FW I/O and I have also installed a pyro 3 port firewire card.

I have tried cables in all the inputs with different configs but it still crashes my machine.

The orange light on the front of the drive (on the right) comes on and stays on when the machine crashes.

Does this info help you?

Make sure the drive is connected to the Pyro firewire card and that the Mojo is connected to the internal firewire on the motherboard. You may also want to try differnt slots with the Pyro card in case there is a system conflict based on PCI slot.

Also make sure the FireWire drive is formatted at NTFS. Check on all of this and get back to us.

Hi Michael,

Im not using a Mojo... Do I need to?

BTW - the Avid drive is formatted to NTFS.

But will also try your recommendations.

Cheers!

Ah... sorry, I thought there was a mojo in place. And no, one is not needed for your capture from DV. Have you had any luck yet?

Tried what you suggested and it does now capture - but only for about a minute before it crashes. If I leave he machine for about 5 mins - a message on the avid pops up saying the following:

Halted on "picnic" (my file name)
Exception: DIG_VDM_OVERRUN
Number of clips remaining to re-capture:1
Do you wish to continue?

Any thoughts?

Let me check into it. VDM is the video device manager. Are you capturing DV25 resolution from a DV device or are you using one of the offline resolutions such as 15:1s or 28:1?

Im using DV25 from the DVX100.

Thanks Michael.
