I have been experiencing constants crashes on my first 25p project in which i am also animated stills with Avid Pan & Zoom Pluggin. Just two pictures so far: a 7,5 MB jpg and a 10mb psd. Why so big? Beacause i need to perform some dramatical zooms and pans....

But crashes arises. For example when when i try to insert an edit in the animated picture(as its not possible to trim a segment that have pan&scan on it) in order to copy/ use different part of the animation into different places.

The following is the 2 more common error messages:

ipl 2.5 rELEASE

iN FUNCTION IPLaLLOCATEiMAGE(): [FILE IPLALLOC.C, LINE 315] FOR ALLOCATE IMAGE DATA
iNSUFFICIENT MEMORY
(STATUS:-4)

or

BACKTRACE
(STATUS:-1)

eRRmODE=ipl_eRRORmODElEAF

tERMINATE THE APPLICATION?

yES

and after that a new WIN32 window terminating the program:

IPL Library: termination the application

or sometimes a "Microsoft Visual Basic C++" saying that its have been an unusual error and though terminating the application.......

I dont know if there is a way of avoiding this crashes or if i am working with too big files (althoug no being able to zoom a 7,5 mb picture is just a toy and not a pro pluggin! as i have Zeon dual processor and plenty of ram and hd (windows xp by the way))
Maybe its a bug on Xpress Pro with the Pan and Zoom!. I havent found anything on avid knowledge center. Maybe you Michael have a tip :)

thanks to anybody for sharing any kind of information

It is supposed to work with files sizes up to 10K x10K. Are you rendering the effect as progressive? I don't believel it supports .psd files. Although those files are supported with direct import. It also sounds as there is a memory leak or problem. I will see what else I can find out.

I had troubles too with the pan and zoom.
Can´t do it with jpeg files. But it did work when i changed the jpegs into tiff´s.
In terms of quality I dont think it matters. Just that tiff´s will become bigger files.
I haven´t try with psd. I thought they couldn´t work.

By the way. Don´t you have troubles with audio sync when you work in 25p projects? I do and I know a lot of people report it too. Just curious about it.

Hi Travis!,

Thanks for the advise. I shall try with tiff...maybe that can help. I haven¨t have problem with the sync. But anyway on the moment i am doing a kind of project with extreme close ups of objects and part of the bodies, kind of shots in which sync doesnst play much of a role. So i havent notice. But on a month i shall editing a more classic documentary with interviews. I will send you an instant message telling if the sync function or not all along the project, 'cause ,if i remember well, you have written that it's ok on the beginning and that it only gets worst läter.

RE: Audio sync issues:

I just did a project in 24p and the sync issues were driving me nuts. What would happen is I would export as a reference and then encode for DVD. That's when I would notice the sync issues. Really bad. Anyway, after days of experimenting I found out two things:

1. Not using Avid Codec at export time solves the sync problem but at the cost of a picture quality.

2. I was able to reimport it into Avid at 29.97 and then add the Avid Codec and re-export it. That worked better, but I don't know if it added an extra "generation" to my footage.

If anybody else has a more grateful solution, It would be nice to know.

There is a know bug in NTSC 23.976p projects when exporting as contained QUickTime movie. The audio will drift becuase of some internal 23.976p/24p issues. This has been fixed in a 4.3.3 release either just rekeased or about to be released.

If you export using the QUickTime reference using the codec, there is no sync issue.

I have still to diplicate the PAL 25p sync issue mentioned above.
