i've noticed a few people out there running the Panasonic AG-DV2500 deck with thier Xpress Pro. have you encountered difficulty with batch digitizing? i can control the deck with no problem in all modes but batch, at which time it will locate the IN, but then go into reverse shuttle till i stop it. i can't find anything in the deck menu that would indicate a false setting, but there has to be something. it's driving me nuts! any help is appreciated

I will need to check into this. I do not use that deck.

Michael, i'd appreciate that. about a month back, there was a thread about which deck people use w/ avid, and FatDaddy mentioned he also used this deck, and that batch was 'finicky.' that at least gives me hope that the system does work. FD, if you see this, please fill me in on your fix. thanks.

Hey There,
I havent had to batch in a while, so I am trying to remember what the fix was. I think some of the time I would use the generic DV deck setting and this would help. I have been working on presentation/teaching stuff for a while so I dump alot in at one time (single clips etc. from DVC Pro). I will call up a list of some footage and re-dig and see how it goes (instead of giving out bad info). I also starting watching my TC breaks more carefully when shooting with the DVX-100. I will let you know. Sorry not to be more help. Basically like I said before, it has worked well sometimes during batch and not at others.

FD, thanks for the tip. i set my deck to 'Generic DVDevice' and it seems to work just fine. seems kinda silly though, since the machine template for the DV2500 is included w/ Avid. but if it works, i'm happy. thanks again for the tip.

Good news goettler. If it is working for you then I won't go out and create more work for myself with testing batch dig until I have to. If you have any other insights from using the deck please share in the forum!

having used this system for about a month now a number of projects, i've come to the following conclusions: this is a great little deck, but at this time doesn't play well w/ Avid throught firewire. i haven't tried RS422 though.
deck preference settings must be as follows: Generic DVBasicDevice-NTSC, make absolutely sure FAST CUE is OFF. setting preroll at 2 or 3 seconds save a bunch of time in a large batch, and doesn't affect anything.
even though Avid comes with an AG-DV2500 machine template, it doesn't work. i use sony DSR-11s, 25s, and 45s at work, and they are rock solid.
