Canon xl2 help ?

Well guys I was wondering is it ok to leave the lens on at all time on the canon xl2? The manual says "Do not leave lens on for long period of time when not in use" ?

on the other note which tripods are you guys using I am in the market looking for a new tripod also is it true you have to buy the baseplate by canon for the xl2 in order for it to mount on the tripod?

I have always left a lens on it, although I normally leave the 3X on. I also have an OLD L-1 and I never took the lens off of it for storage. Never a problem.

Have always left the lens on my XL1s with no problems. Same with my XL2. Also have the Cartoni Action Pro tripod. Love it. And I dont need to get the Canon tripod plate. Hope this helps.
