Looks fantasic... as long as the same native SmallHD slim batteries that work with the DP6 also work with the PD4... they just sold me on it over redrock's EVF

I got their email alert today about this. I like the HDMI pass thru concept, great to daisy chain monitors.
Although the 4" is way too small for me I look forward to an update on the DP6 for HDMI thru.
A DP6 thru to a DP9 for client handoff would be sweet.

Have they released a price yet? Also, I did not see a price for the DP-6... really interested in that as well for the extra resolution.

Estimated price for DP4 is $550... include the EVF piece and the package is $750.

For larger cameras, the 1280x800 PD6 is of course far more ideal but the 800x400 DP4 is meant for small and light DSLR rigs which is perfect for getting it into places where larger rigs would be cumbersome. I would look at it primarily as a B-cam monitor or EVF.

Looks nice of course, but I wish they'd release a DP8 or DP9...

I honestly thought they would show a DP8 or DP9 at NAB. Kind of surprised they didnt

alternative EVF options are some of the hottest things to dive into right now. right up there with external recorders. makes perfect sense from SMALLHD. Hope they come out with a SDI version as well.

They will have an SDI attachment option for the DP4.

Yep, exactly.

Seems like everyone and their cousin is jumping on EVFs... yet I don't see anyone making a quality, affordable 9" monitor, and I can't think of more than 2-3 companies besides SmallHD that are well positioned to. Ah well, kinda irrelevant, they didn't announce one, so that's that :/

FreshDV posted a video about the new 4" SmallHD and Loupe attachment.

Surprising that they are supporting component in too with this new monitor.

Good external EVF´s are in demand. I hope somebody comes up with something good finally.

Unfortunately, the slim line SmallHD battery is a bit wider then the DP4. The first set of battery plates will be DLSR and compact camera batteries. We will also have a locking connector plate for external power options. I will let the design team know about your interest in the SmallHD batteries.

I love SmallHD products, but since the DP4 monitor is actually smaller than the DP1 and DP6 battery it would be pretty lame to include that battery bracket. I see the reason for using the DSLR battery plates now. Any plans on launching with a plate for Panasonic GH2 batts?

Where did they even FIND a panel that low resolution in 2011?

Glad ur on the forums reed. There's a huge need for an 8" or 9" monitor like your old dp1x. Although the dp6 is nice I had to pass on it as it's not much larger than an on-camera LCD which (for me) defeats the purpose.

It's not the size that's the most important, it's the resolution. On camera LCDs are near worthless and the DP6 HD-SDI (1280x800) that we use on the AF-100 blows away the integrated flipout LCD which has become a designated waveform monitor. Now, a 1920x1080 9" monitor... we'd order that in a heartbeat.
