Hi all,
I have been reading about other Avid Xpress Pro editors using BBC PPM metering and Waveform monitors.
I know what they do - but how do I get them? And do I need them for DV work that I am capturing from firewire. ie DV25...
I only seem to have the option to input via OHC for both video and audio. If I was to connect up an external meter or monitor... how would I do it and be able to capture in via Avid?
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers in advance.

You would need a Mojo to have either coponent, s-video, or composite out to a live client monitor for color correction. This monitor would need to be properly calibrated to make subjective color correction. Legal video levels can be made with teh waveform/vectorscoe contained in the software if needed. There is color correction and color enhancement - one is objective, the other is subjective and a good colorist makes both happen.

Where in the software are the waveform and vectrascope? Or do they only become available once you use a Mojo? As I dont currently have a Mojo, I guess that I cant make the edits broadcast legal...

You do not need a Mojo to see waveform/vectorscpes. WHen you are in color correction mode (from toolset) you can set any one of the three monitors to display any of the available waveform vectorscopes. Above each monitor you will see a name like "previous", "current", "next". Select that (it's a menu" and scroll down to the waveform/vectorcops display of your choice. Now it is active during all you color correction work.

You'll always wanna use external scopes though.
Avid has alwas been very weak in this area.
Tek has a new plugin that has potential. Ya gotta render stuff under it which makes it second fiddle to external scopes right now but at least they see a problem and are trying to address it.
More than I can say for avid right now.

..hmm, I guess I'll have to tell my friends who have recently sold their dv-orginated projects , that the Sundance Channel, HBO and others who accepted their XPressPro-edited features and docs, were actuallly wrong to do so, and the signals aren't in fact legal!

you should at leat tell em to monitor their signals before a show is rejected by a network and they don't get to another one.
Racing with your eyes closed is never a good idea.
What is the best way to calibrate the client monitor?
Thanks,
