Thought a poll to see who'll actually be buying this camera would be interesting to see, especially considering the traffic this new camcorder is generating for the community. So, will you be buying one?

I think you should have ask..."If the cost of the camera is below $5,000"? We can't really justify the cost if we don't know what it is yet.

I plan on buying a camera in about 1 1/2 to 2 years. If the top of the line prosumer camera is rthe HVX at that point, then yes. If something better has come out by then, we'll see.

I think I'll wait for you early adopters to work out the kinks so I can buy the 'A' model this time next year.

If functionally it's as good as it is speculated to be, it will be hard not to.

Everything so far looks good. So yes I'm buying.

After my Dad had a brain aneurism and then my Mom died all with in four months of each other I had to go on hiatus from the film business and attend to the family.

My DVX100 was my favorite of the small cameras.

I hated parting with that camera, but it pained me to see it sit in a bag and not get used. But it went to a good friend and he is making money with it.

Now I am very slowly getting things balance at homestead, but still have a ways to go.

So my next camera is going to be this P2 camera. HD is coming!

There is one option missing from the poll question; "How can I buy something that I haven't experienced yet". Sorry to see the level of hype that exists out there in the prosumer/consumer world. Its great for the folks who make the stuff and not so good for those that use it. The same stuff happened with the HDV camera by Sony and now some folks who bought it aren't as happy as they thought. Not saying folks will not like this camera but just because I tell you a girl I want you to meet ha s a great body, perfect height and blonde hair doesn't mean you like her.

Ummm... shouldn't you be in the lighting forum? ;) :)

I just bought a DVX100a..... However, I will upgrade to the new camera if Panasonic hits a nice price point (less than $5k).

Michael,

Sorry about your parents. It's good to read you're beginning to get back on track. It will take time, but just give yourself the room.

I also know how frustrating it is to have to step away from doing the thing that really makes you happy when life throws a curve, but you'll be back soon enough. Good luck with the new camera!

So what is the perfect height for a woman??

I need a new cam soon, before this thing is released, unfortunately.

I really don't think this camera will be under 5K. I think it would compete too close with the DVX100. I'm thinking around 7k.

Michael,
Sorry about your parents
James

Thank you James

My dad survived the his brain aneurism. I found him next to his treadmill in a coma. I was told he should have died, but in this rare chance he pulled through. It was the worst day of my life and it took six months for him to come home and three brain surgery's. I was at the hospital three + times a day and night for all those months.

What was a nightmare was about to become double that , finding my mother past away just a few days before 34th birthday. My dad was in his fourth month away from home at this point, two more months of hospital stay to go.

I moved back home after that , and have been home since taking care of my Dad. Then to add to life's bumps in the road my 13 year relationship with my girlfriend collapsed to the stress load. Life sure does throw you nasty curve balls. That's for sure.

I am lucky that I was involved with the film industry sine I was a young teenager. I was trained / mentored in Film. I first got to use HD when I was 18-years old. Since then I have been involved in High-res technology from Showscan - Iwerk- Imax to HD. But I have been behind HD since I saw Julia and Julia at the Edwards Town Center in Costa Mesa Ca in 1987. I still remember the day. Not a good movie, but I remember telling the projectionist in the projection room that this was filmed HD video. He didn't have clue what the hell I was talking about.

Now that HD is coming to a lower cost level is great!

Again James, thank your for kind words...

I'll wait and see the results (like I did with the DVX100A). Maybe in a couple of years. Until then, I've got a great camera that I'm really happy with.

Won't be buying till I finish writing two feature length pet projects. After that, I'll be ready to take the plunge.

If I get some funding from some investors I am there. Unfortunately that means I have to make a really good movie first. DOH!

Well I'm waiting to see it, but it sounds good so far. I want to see what the P2 thing is like in the end, that will be the deciding factor for me. My XM2 is getting old, and I'm about to embark on a long, slow, career change from software engineer to filmmaker. So I need another camera.

That cat has a wierd look on it's face!!!!

I'm going for it for the 422 DVCPro50 right off the bat which take my game to another level. The HD capabilities are gravy for me (of course it's alot of gravy).

Haha. That's "Diamond" aka "Little Geek" - she's about 9 years old but is the size of a year old cat - Scottish Short Hair in her somewhere. She's ultra cute, and that was a pretty wide angle close up. You should see it full res..I tried putting it as my desktop wallpaper but it just freaked me out too much to look at it so removed it aftera bout 10 minutes ;)

Yeah, having 4:2:2 DVCPro is going to be great for us. I'm really waiting to find out about usability too though. I'm new to the game, but in the couple of years I've had my Xm2 I know know why people want certain features in a camera and how some little things (Like that STUPID flick wheel iris control on the XM2 and XL2!) can just really piss you off.

At first I thought she was the stunt double for "Toonces the Cat who could drive" from back in the day of (early) SNL

I will buy one IF...

The DSP is better than the DVX100a
Viewfinder is better and with more control than the DVX100a
The lens controls are better than the DVX100a, specilly iris.
The lens has a good focal length range , like at least litlle wider than DVX (the wider the better, but not talking about fisheye wide though) and more telephoto.
It's around 7k (for camera only that is)
More P2 options are presented for a much cheaper price at NAB2005(not 2010) .

Otherwise?

JVC GY-HD100. At least I know it most likely covers 5 out of 6 of my wishes above.

I'll only buy it if it comes with a good script and a new Mac to match!! ~reservoir~

I will shoot two more features first (my first one just got into 2 inter ffest in europe! thanks to all of you guys here) and if I will see that Panny HD gives much better picture etc sure I will get one (the price will go down, people actually will learn about editng flow etc etc) so, I will wait. The better cam will not help me right now. Right now I got to learn how to tell the story and DVX100a is my friend for now.

If this is a good camera, and I expect it will be,... beyond imagination, then I'll buy one for me and where I teach we will buy a half dozen or so for student productions. We'll start with a few in year one and more following thereafter. 1080P at 24fps....c'mon folks, this is a fantasy come to life!

If Panasonic keeps it's great quality with the new cam and the lens is a bit longer on focal length - say X14???- then I'm in.
