Boris RED or Continuum, depending on how extreme you want to get are both very nice plug ins. :)

I use Boris a lot, and it is part of the AVX plug-in partners. For a list of developers, go to:

Saphhire is the best all around package for the money in my opinion.

There hasn't been a day in 3 years when I didn't use em.
I dream of a day when Avid beefs up their effects... and ditches that old crysty good for nothing DVE. I mean it was ok 10 years ago but sheesh.

Grinner, In case you havent hear, Avid has updated and revamped their effects in a way. Depending on what Avid system you buy, currently one of the Boris product are now included. If you were to buy an Adrenaline, BCC (Boris Continuum Complete 3AVX) is included. And if you buy an Xpress Pro with the studio bundle, then an version of RED 3 is included (its called AVID FX). So your wish has come true :)

Well not really. The old nasty aliasing still exists in Adrenaline looking like the Media Composer v5 I was on a decade ago. Seriously, if this were gone in Adrenaline v1, I would have bought a couple of em. The HQ toggle switch is a big step backwards. It should be assumed we want high quality and that quality otta be much higher than it is right now. many are hopeful that when Adrenaline actually becomes 10 bit as advertised this will fix the problem. I don't think it's the missing 2 bits at all. Some blame it on the old genie but that's obviously not what it was either since it's still there.
I have boris RED. I also have to use AE all the time. These thing add hours to the day and take more money from my clients' pocket which is not good for me in the long run.
Now Nitris' DVE is all clean but then Avid didn't write that code. Seems they'd at least migrate some goodness down since they have such a huge gab in their product line between Adrenaline and Nitris. Charging the 70k that Nitris is actually worth would even be good.
Basicly, they now have great products for the low end, a good but way over-priced product for the high end and nothing in between. This is why I'm still milking my Symphony.
In a short matter of time the majority of the market will upgrade their Media Composers and Symphonies to something with much better quality. If Avid doesn't HURRY in stepping up to the plate to fill this gap they will simply lose out to FCP, XPRI, 844/X and every other box that offers so much more bang for the buck than what Avid is currently offering.
Meanwhile they are doing whacky things like spending 80 million bucks for M-audio. This just confirms what old Symphony owners kinda knew all along... that Avid's prorities are so far off base that moving on to another flavor is inevitable. A shame after investing in a company so deeply but losing clintele to competition is the alternative and it's not like that's a viable option for any of us.

How did we go from helping a guy with Xpress pro looking for advice on plug ins and effects to a debate on the AVID product line? Give me a break. Stick to the subject at hand, helping Captn Jack Sparrow with effect's and effect design that can be implimented inside of XPRESS PRO.

Thats the thing about discussions. They evolve.
The captain already knows Xpress Pro is too limited to do what he needs and now he knows what plugins will help.
We all know how to put on a band-aid. It may be more beneficial to talk about how not to keep getting cut.
