Hey Guys, I'm kind of new at this... I love Vegas but I realize that it's not super good for effect.
There's the link of a Mountain Bike video... you will notice the kind of transition they doing, from video to pictures.

Which software should I use to do transitions and effect like that ?
thanks guys

i really doubt that was all done in vegas, if it was i really need to check it out. i would figure what frame i wanted to start the transition on and save out an image sequence from my nle ,bring it into photoshop paint frames as desired ,making sure to make a seperate layer for each element in the still image, then bring into ae as composition and turn 3d for layers that will be used ,add camera and move around as desired

photoshop in layers to seperate elements, than animated & processed in AE.
see THE KID STAYS IN THE PICTURE for liberal use of this effect (stills only).
the only difference here is you take the last frame of video, make it a still, create your sequence and place it back into the edit w/ a transition.
two different functions. one is editing, the other is effects.

does anyone know how he zoomed in on the back ground then had a different picture. I'm trying the effect right now but i cant figure out how to zoom. I suppose you need to add a camera but i don't know how to use it? help?

move along the z and x axis, with the camera selected they would be the blue and red arrows over your footage. move your curser over them until you see a z or x and click and drag. dont forget to set keyframes at the begining and end of the move and turn on 3d

also, what effect makes the photo "flicker" before fully apearing?????

do you have the layers all at the same z depth ? if so try to move the bg a little further back than the other layer, so you get some paralax between the images, the photo flicker could be done by opacity or levels being keyframed maybe with the wiggler

that is EXACTLY what effect i want to learn how to do , but instead of the guy with the wheel barrow, I want to use a still picture cut from the footage.

Kai-
I just went to your site. Your stuff is fantastic. You've got serious skills. Let me ask you...that Iraq piece...guesstimate...how long did that take to put together? Where there any 3D elements in it or was it just 2D in 3D space?
Thanks-
Rick
Thanks for the kind words, I really appreciate it! :)
The Iraq vid took about a week, off & on. The zoom at the beginning was all in after effects, and it's actually all 2D. No 3D on that one. Just layer zooms and pans, etc. Would've been alot easier to just use 3D camera moves though lol
Ok, I promised this last week, sorry it took so long. I wasn't able to find the final file, but here's an earlier version of the "bustout" effect in the clip I posted earlier. Its not pretty by any means, but there's enough in there for you to play with and figure out how it was done to apply to your own projects... It has magic bullet 2.0 effects applied, so if you don't have that installed, it'll warn you, but you can just ignore it. It'll still open without the effects installed.
FILES: http://www.kylestauffer.com/dvx/bustout.zip (42MB)
FINAL: http://www.kylestauffer.com/dvx/3dintro.mov (31MB)
ps: once you dig into it, you'll see how stupidly simple it really is. :)

Kai;
I also checked out your site..... nice, very nice work!
Do you do this full time?
Love the IRAQ video, excellent composition! and great accompanying music track. Was that used by the organization?
I'd love to see more of that, if you have any? Was it a DVD?
Yes, this is what I do fulltime. Keeps me sane/insane, depending on the day. :)
The Iraq vid was for a dvd project, yes. It's actually on a dvd with about 4 similar videos. PM me your address and I can send you a copy.
