This message might sound quite dum, but I am really a "beginner":
Can anyone please tell me if I need to purchase Avid Express Pro toedit my work shot on Panasonic AG-DVX100-A, or is the AvID ExpressDV 4.0 compatible? I need to make a choice quite soon, and would go for the Avid Express DV ,but I m not sure if it is compatible with my 24 p images...or is there any other lower range compatible editing software that someone can advise
Ca anyone please help? Thanks
Matt :'(

Xpress DV does not do native 24p editing. YOu can certainly use the camera and edit in 30i with 2:3 pulldown. If you want native editing at 24, Xpress Pro is needed.

Does anybody have opinions on the value of this system?:

http://www.biwaymedia.com/system/AvidXpressXE.htm

I want a quick and easy turnkey solution that will enable me to jump into editing the 24 frame mode and, yet, allow some pretty sophisticated effects and compositing for Music Videos.

Later, to dive into Independent film.

Anything else this basic package should have--which, I believe (Express Pro) DOES support 24fp native format editing?

Thanks for input!

Xpress DV only works at video rates of 29.97 (NTSC) and 25 (PAL). Native 24p (23.976) woth frame removal during capture is an Xpress Pro feature. Real time output to DV/client monitor with 2:3 pulldown insertion requires the Mojo hardware.

You certainly can edit 24 frame material in a 29.97 project and still have the film look ofered by the camera.

I have recently been approached about editing a series pilot that was shot on the DVX100, when I asked the director if the show was shot in 24p he said no, it was done in 30. I'm assuming he means 30p.

My Question(s): Will XpressDV 3.5.4 edit 30p? or do I need Pro for this? or is there really no difference between 30p and 29.97 and I'm just being ignorant?

Any help in this matter is appreciated since this will be first editing experience with footage shot on this camera, please email me at editron5000(AT)hotmail(DOT)com with any advice/suggestions/warnings regarding this.

Thanks

Well it could be shot as either 30i or 30p... but in either case both formats can be edited in a 30i (29.97) project as the actual frame rate s 29.97fps. If shot progressive at 30p, the images will look the same in a 30i project with the only difference being effects renders will be on fields on not frames.

Xpress 3.5.x will work just fine for this.
