Kept DRS 1 on and went in the other direction with the sharpness!

I like the sharpness. IMO, it looks BETTER than the dull stuff.

I agree, the sharpness looks great in this case.

I liked it and I thought your settings suited the light conditions you were shooting under.

Thanks for checking it out.

Some footage I'd seen at -7 looked a little soft so I decided to go up to experiment. Not sure if it applies to the AF100, but using a cinegamma with the HVX lowered your sharpness a little.

This is beautiful. Tack sharp. Will make note of these settings. Thanks for the post. -m

Cool! The slow-motion emulated that of film! What shutter speeds were you using?

the problem with using sharpness above -4 is that you will get edge enhancement. Anytime you have the chance, look at your borders on high contrast areas, they have a black band around them. I will post stills if you would like, and yes, it's pixel peeping. But it's quite yucky.

Mark, thanks. Going to quieter matrix while turning up DRS seems to give the camera an interesting look. I'd love to see a formal test with charts featuring DRS vs adjusting luma curve in post

JT, I didn't touch the shutter on this shoot so I assume the shutter defaulted to 1/120 in 60p overcrank.

PaPa, yeah I don't like edge enhancement, but I also don't like soft images, so there just is a trade-off everyone will need to make. My gripe with the sharpness down too far is it doesn't look like a properly resolved 1080p image. How far is too far in either direction? I haven't really figured out for myself. Perhaps you are right at -4 being the best of both worlds.

I actually would encourage pixel peeping. I would like to see what people are finding offensive with the sharpness up. The less compressed mov is available for download on the vimeo page. I have seen some weird things with bokeh, specifically point light sources. Wasn't 100% sure it was attributed to the detail setting, but now that you mention it, it sounds about right. So where I have point light bokeh is a situation I might turn the detail down.

The better tradeoff is to bring sharpness down in camera and then add it in post. I would be more than happy to illustrate the difference in comparison shots so we can all pixel peep to see in the end what's better.

Looks like i will be sticking with -5 :D
