This weekend I want to concentrate on working on my shots especially transitions. Which movies would you recommend to watch? My feature is a sports drama and I'm more interested in European and Asian style.

Rent the DVD of Ocean's eleven (or buy it) ... Stephen Soderberg gives a lot of tips concerning transition and flow of the movie. I've seen it with director's commentary like 8 times (with concentration) now.
While you're at it... Erin Brokovich also has director's commentary.

At the moment I'm watching a lot of anime and Japanese styled cartoons.
Naruto is really hot at the moment. (It seems there are subtitled versions in circulation on the net...) But a very good cartoon is also Samurai Jack (as you might have guessed) which is shown on Cartoon Network.
Although at first sight cartoons seem only for kids, you might change your opinion after watching a few episodes of Samurai Jack...

Hope this helps.

Thanks much Polle. I'd definately rent out Ocean's eleven. I'll try to also catch Samurai Jack.

For transitions that really underscore themes : "Chinatown".

Almost anything Kurosawa : especially "Seven Samurai", "The Bad Sleep Well" -masterful

Also : from Kieslowski's trilogy "Red" , "White" ("Blue" not so much).

Soderbergh's - "Out of Sight", conventional transitions, but done well.

And Wong Kar Wai's "Happy Together" - amazing how the shots are so varied
yet they flow seemlessly. IMO.
