Jarred, any plans on doing a write up about the event for those of us who aren't able to be there?

I'm curious as to what went on, what questions were asked (and answered), etc

I know I know, as if you guys haven't done enough for us homebodies already.

Yes, it was truly excellent! Finally met David Jimerson, and Charles Papert, and Eric Cosh and ArkhamFilms and Shane Realm and PanasonicNZ and Graeme Nattress and so many others. It was an excellent turnout! And, it turns out, DVXUser members are REALLY NICE in person too!

It was so awesome to put a face to everyone's name, bad news though, some one broke into my car and stold my laptop, a case of my pany MQ tapes (around 30 tapes), and a unopended scream trilogy box set. Pretty much bad form on my part (I should have known better then park on the street behind the parking garage).

Jarred Land

I saw Noah with a camera but I think the Hard Rock swallowed him last night so we will see if he makes it up intime today to post some pics.

Wow- stellar turnout! I think we had over 100 people. The folks from Panasonic were overwhelmed to say the least. When I think about how many folks from the board didn't even make the trek to Vegas I'm even more amazed. Thanks again to everyone who showed and also everyone who cheered us on from home. You are all definitely a big part of making DVXuser the place to be in the know. (Notice any familiar faces here?)

Jack_Felis

AVID was just showing off their DSxNitris and other big time stuff and AVID Xpress Pro HD. Nothing terribly new that was unexpected.

Well, shoot! I didn't make it over to the DVX meeting because I was too caught up in the upper South hall! Well, if anyone's gonna be around there today I may bump into ya.

It was really great to see such a big turn out, and put some faces with the names. It was an extremely helpful presentation, and that 3D kicked ass.

Thanks Jan, Jarred, Barry & Noah for setting this up.

Oh man next time we need a real meet and greet. It was a pleasure to meet David J., Noah and Nick. Plus all the other dvxusers! The get together at the Hard Rock hotel was very fun. Greg Mote from cinetactics ( Matteblox) was there. He gave out some t-shirts. Great guy with a great product! I hope I spelled his name right.
(Edit) It was great meeting C.J. also!

Are the p2 cards strictly for hd or so they capture standard video as well and if so can they hold more than 2-4 min on the 2 or 4 gb card.

Rezzie

The P2 cards can record DVCPRO and DVCPRO50 (which are standard definition) as well as HD. DVCPRO is 25mbps and is basically miniDV (4:1:1 color sampling), DVCPRO50 is 50 mbps and has color sampling of 4:2:2. So, a 2GB P2 card can hold about 8 minutes of DVCPRO and 4 minutes of DVCPRO50. A 4GB would hold double of each.

Barry_Green

Any of the formats can be recorded to P2. You get longer running times with the lower-resolution formats. On a 4gb card you get 4 minutes of 1080, 10 minutes of 720/24p, 8 minutes of DVCPRO50, or 16 minutes of DV or DVCPRO25.

Can the DVCPRO50 or 25 record at the 1080/24p frame rate.

Bilgami, I'm not sure you understand what's happening there.

The camera supports three different recording mediums.

DV and DVCPRO25 are a standard-def recording medium. They can only record 720x480 at 60 interlaced fields per second, using 4:1:1 color and a 5:1 DCT compression system.

DVCPRO50 is also a standard-def recording medium. It records 720x480 at 60 fields per second, but has twice the color (with 4:2:2) and a lower compression ratio, 3.3:1.

720p and 1080p/i are high-def. They're not standard-def. So you need to use DVCPRO-HD if you want to record any sort of 720 or 1080 imagery.

I guess dvcpro 50 is my best bet for a short term basis. does the dsr-11 play the dvc 50 or do i have buy a new deck.

Bill- Where've you been? This camera records only DV onto miniDV tape. All the other formats have to be recorded onto the P2 cards, or the unclear hard drive solution.

You can't pack the information of DVCPRO 50 or DVCPROHD onto that size of tape (MiniDV).

DVCPRO-HD tape is only available in the large size.

You can still record DVCPRO HD onto a Medium DVCPRO cassette. The AJ-P46M at 11 minutes, or the 66M which records 16 minutes @HD.
