Hello Guys,

I'm new to editing but I have both Premiere and Avid on my computer. I spent the last two days working on Premiere and haven't messed around with Avid.

Can anyone that knows both give me the plusses and minuses of both so I can dedicate my time to one or the other. I realize this is an Avid board, so the answers will be biased towards Avid, but I just asked the same question on the Premiere board.

So, for those familiar with both, what would you say are the differences, and why do you prefer one to the other?

Thanks.

I use Xpress Pro at work and Premiere Pro at home. I would rather do my work at home. Avid is a solidly stable program (I use an approved system) and is the standard in the industry; which is important if you are learning editing to advance into a career. But I am tired of how dated it is in terms of the advancements it's competitiors have made. Many of it's great features are only for larger, multi-edit ba faculties, where Xpress can be used as an offline editor.

I love the innovations Premiere has that make so many editing operations easier. I feel it is a much faster editor in terms of useablity of the interface. I love its title tool and burning a DVD from the timeline.

I recomend Premiere Pro.
