Took a few clips this weekend at the local marina with my XL2. I color corrected it a bit and added some glow. Still learning to use it and compose shots.

http://home.comcast.net/~chalbers/marina.wmvx

Download it and then rename it to marina.wmv to play.

Hope you like it

You maybe didn't get the whole thing.

I had to upload it again. It was faulty. Should be up now !

And the one up now is marina.wmvx

That was really nice; thanks for sharing; a nice choice of score as well; I am a sucker for anything nautical.

Thanks John ! I really liked the very first shot. And I was lucky it was windy, it gave the shots more life.

The music is from the Japanese anime movie "Princes Mononoke".

Hi Frank,

I'll pm you the ftp info. If you don't mind, can you please upload an mpeg2 version of both so i can burn it to DVD and view it on my HD big screen? I want to see the quality.

Thanks

I use vegas and mostly compress to 1M/sec

wow that looks good - hope my DVX will be able to do that :) personal opinion is that u added to much glow/blooming - but overall i liked the footage - can imagine it as an intro lead in to something quick and hectic... :)

1M/sec? Frank, is that 1MB/sec or 1Mb/sec? Should be MBytes, right? :)

Hi Frank,

I finally had a chance to burn the mpg you uploaded and it looked awesome on the big screen. I wonder if someone on here has a full resolution footage of the DVX. I love the way you color corrected the image. Thanks for sharing man.

Looked really good. i love those days when there's sun coming from one side and on the other side super dark clouds. makes that sky really stand out, so nice. Did you throw any filters on it or is that pretty much raw footage? Looked really good.

Yeah ! I also have a home theater with projector. Looks great in native widescreen.

I've done compositing before, as my job, so I know a bit on color correcting.

Glad you liked it.

It's not raw I color corected with levels and color curves. Trying to make it more filmic.

Glad you liked it ! :-)

The DVX is really nice for color and motion. It kicks ass, seriously. But the XL2 is an awesome cam. The stock 20x lens is pretty nice except it's basically a tele. If you want to get some wide shots you'll need to pick up a wide lens, which will cost you another few grand. On top of that, it's highly recomended that you pick up the 16x manual lens which is also really nice. But will also cost you a few grand.

And native 16x9? C'mon. The XL2 is a sweet package, but it is FAR more expensive. The worst thing about the DVX in my opinion is the resolution, which is crap. It's usually a matter of opinon. It depends what you're going to use it for. The XL2 also has a really sweet optical image stabilizer. It's kinda cool. The camera senses the movement on the CCD and compensates for it on the lens. It makes for a pretty nice stable picture when going handheld. If the camera's on sticks it kinda sucks because it creates a weird lag affect. But hey, when you're on a tripod who needs stabilizers?

If you plan on showing your footage anywhere besides a *normal* television, go with the XL2, but if you're into colors and motion (which can usually be tweaked in post anyway) go with the DVX.

color rendition, motion and sharpness with the 16x
is as good if not better than the DVX and the canon
3x is wider than the dvx stock lens

both the 16x and 3x wide cost about 1k each
