Does anyone have experience with either of these DV decks? Or even another option in the same price range - around $1600. I was ready to buy the Sony then a salesman told me about problems with it. A salesman gets lots of feedback, but then you never know about his agenda. So I'm looking for input.
The system I'm putting together is an Avid Xpress Pro with Mojo on the HP8000 system, dual 2.8 GHz processors, and using the new Medea G-RAIDs for storage. Any comments or experiences on any aspect of this?
Thanks,
Gregg

Well, I can say from experience at my worplace . . . we have 5 Sony DSR-11 decks that work very well. In my 6+ months here, I have not witnessed them failing in any way. And we use them quite heavily.
With JVC, their products seem "hit" or "miss" (and probably mostly "miss"). We have some JVC S-VHS decks, and while very different from the DSR-11's, they seem to require servicing more often. Plus, I've heard a lot about JVC equipment requiring a lot of servicing.
I think the DSR-11's biggest advantage is the ability to *record* on to DVCAM tapes. I can't seem to find that with any other decks in that price range.
So, all in all, I say go for the Sony DSR-11. But that's just one reporter's opinion. :) I'm going to the DV Expo in Los Angeles next week so I'm gonna see if there are any new decks hitting the market.
Good luck!

Thanks for your input. I've heard no other complaints about the Sony, so I think I'll go with it.

Are you in Los Angeles or Louisiana?
If you're in Los Angeles, you should go to the DV Expo next week. It's free if you sign up within another day or two. http://www.dvexpo.com
