Hi All,
I need to pull some chapters off a few DVD's I own for a persoanl project I'm working on. Can anyone recommend any free software that enables me to do this? Or maybe even a web site that cators to this kind of technology.
Thanks in advance!

Anyone else? I don't want to buy anything unless I know it works for my needs.

DVD Decrypter (http://www.dvddecrypter.com) will let you rip DVD's very EASY!! I use it to *Backup* all my store bought dvd's and "some" rentals from Blockbuster. DVDshrink is good for compressing an 8gig DVD to a 4.7 DVD-R/+R, but if you just want to rip the DVD a chapter at a time or the whole thing, DVD Decrypter is as good as it gets. It will automatically remove the CSS and Macrovision so you will be able to watch it on your PC or burn it back to a DVD-R/+R. Let me know if you need any help doing this. ~reservoir~

Any ideas for the mac. I don't need to rip a whole DVD just looking to bring a clip or still into my NLE so I can compare footage I'm working on to a reference file.

MactheRipper will rip DVDs. Popcorn will squeeze and burn them onto 4.7GB disks. To extract segments to Quicktime, DVDxDV (http://www.dvdxdv.com) works well.

these work pretty good, but I haven't had any success bringing a VOB or ISO file into my NLE (Premiere). Is there a way to rip a DVD to an .AVI file?

Use decryptor then something like THI (http://www.allformp3.com/dvd-copy-software/vob-to-avi.htm)S (http://www.allformp3.com/dvd-copy-software/vob-to-avi.htm) to convert the vob files to avi's.
