Help makeing dvd

Makeing a DVD w/out Mojo.

OK I want to make a DVD, this seems like such a basic question that I'm sure it has been answered before, but everything I have found just ends up confusing me more.

So I want to export form avid as a ____(what?)_____ format for the best quality, then convert that to an mp2 for authoring to DVD.

So what is the best format for export, and what do I use to convert to mp2?

I hear a lot about Sorenson squeeze but I can afford more software right now unless there a cheaper version out there. I have tmpgnc and someone said there was a plug in for it to read qt reference files but I can’t seem to find it. I'm becoming more confused as this goes on please send me to a walkthrough so I can relax.

Do you have a Student version of XPress Pro? If not, you should have gotten Sorenson Squeeze bundled with your purchase...

Any of the mainstream compression applications support a QuickTime reference movie exported from your project. From there, it is treated as QUickTme for compression into MPEG2. That's how easy it can be, but if you don't have a QT supported MPEG2 compressor, then it is a bit more work. You can always export as uncompressed AVI b you may hit some file size limits.

I am not aware of any QT plug-in support for tmpgnc, but I will keep my eyes and ears open.

Ahh ok, that explains why everyone is unhappy with my file sizes, I have the student version of avid express pro, so no sorenson squeeze I guess. Didnt realize they were diffrent.

So what are the mainstream compression applications? I'm assuming you mean things like Canopus Procorder, what other applications are there? Any that won't cost me a couple hundred just so I can make an mp2 file?

The Avid applications are exactly the same, it's just that the student versions dop not include any of the third party applications such as Sorenson Squeeze, SonicFire Pro and DVD authoring.

Sorenson Squeeze does offer student pricing:

This is a great application to have as part of your toolkit in additon to MPEG2 creation.

The plug-in for TMPG is called QTReader.vfp. Google for that and I'm sure you'll find it. If not we can exchange e-mails and I'll send it to you.
