Question/suggestion for jan
You should make a push to get Circuitcity/Bestbuy and other big chains to carry your products(Pana Broadcasting) severely lacking, would be great to check out products before buying(like at b&h here in N.Y.
I know you might think that there is no market, but there is, there are people out there that would spend $3000.
People go to these bg electronics chains a lot and ask for the best, and they end up geting a crappy sony 1ccd mini cam or a panasonic sd camcorder or a fisher 1ccd sd cam all that can cost up to $1200 and give great quality(exaggeration)
Seriously i'm not the director of marketing for pana(should be) but having a display model for the prosumer to come in and look at is a huge plus(not having stock would be okay) have a display model and do special drop ship orders.
I dont know when i'll get a chance at playing with the big boys in electronics but here is another huge tip
manufacture demo models thats right DEMO MODELS with no cassette mechanism no battery just basic demo features and a universal ac plug for power, all the companys will follow suit shortly
peece n b good Put a good word in for me for a job =)

I know a consumer/prosumer oriented store that sold PD-170's, XL1's, GL1's, but no DVX's. I asked why.
The guy said I LOVE the camera (and they were being honest) but we sold them to a lot of people just looking for a high end point and shoot video camera, and they complained that they were too difficult to use. We spent more money teaching people how to use the DVX correctly than we made selling them.
I'm sorry, but the dvx kind of sucks in auto mode, and is much too complicated for 95% of the people who shop at best buy/circuit city, and those 5% who it's not too complicated for, wouldn't buy such nice equiptment at a consumer electronics store. I'm not saying people can't learn how to use the camera, I'm just saying that there's a significant group of people who have a lot of money and want a good image, but couldn't care less about 3:2 pulldown and master pedestal settings.

Exactly right. There's just no compatibility between buyers at consumer stores and high end gear. Also the reverse is true. $3K is way too much for an average consumer to pay for a DV cam that does way more than they want or need.

A DVX requires too much effort for a consumer to justify. Buying an HD television is one thing when all Joe consumer has to do is sit back and change the channel.
I thought the DVC30 fit the high end consumer buyer segment.

I do know that Fry's electronics and Good Guys carries the FX1. Why FX1 and no DVX? Doesn't the FX1 cost more than the DVX?
Auto settings work better with 60i would be my guess

It's not the cost of the camera that determines it -- it's what company markets it. For example, the FX1 is marketed by Sony's consumer division (as is the VX2100, etc). So you can find those cameras at Fry's or Good Guys.
The Z1, PD170, and DVX are all marketed by their companies' professional divisions, and as such you won't find them in consumer outlets. You wouldn't find a Sony PDX10 at Good Guys, and that's a sub-$2000 camera. It's not the price of the camera, it's the division of the company that's responsible for sales.

nope barry its something else
panasonic is missing something with marketing and having demo's of things in stores... only one time did i see a cam from pana on display PV-DV953 at circuit city and that was it...
sony consumer/prosumer works with retail chains closer than pana
i mean the higher end stuff above $800 anything pana above that is nowhere to be found where sony has these all over. big marketing advantage.
customer: hey i want the best thing you have...
store rep: well the pana gs150 is nice and a good cam 3ccd
customer: but this sony is $1200 and pana is $700
store rep: um the sony has 1ccd...
customer: i like the sony the extra money must mean its better
this is a very true scenario
this is a very true scenario
Indeed. Very sad but very true.

What would THAT do?
if i worked at pana i would push them on this hard...
make demo models, cheap with the same exact casings(hard high quality, same as model)
they should end up about $200-300 for stores to carry, it gives people an oppertunity to see and exerience something and do a special order if they want it, no demo models need the tape mech at all
why arent there gs400's in best buy? thats pana consumer, they have $800 plus sony stuff in these stores but pana is missing out so far the new model lines from pana only gs150 is in store thats there top display model.
this is the reason that so many people buy the sony higher end products because in stores ever other manufacturer and there cams are cheaper jvc pana need to step up and make sure they have a presence in high end vid equip at these local chains
so they cant put a $3000 dvx in a best buy, what about a $300 display to give people a chance to go owwww i want that..
eventually the serius that have money to spend that just bought that sony because it was the most expensive will buy another sony hdv fx1/vx2100 because its nature to stick to something if it works
jannn please get me a job at marketing i'll do consumer stuff (more fun working with people on my level in po land wheres budget is usually $400
after 6months to 18months i will increase pana consumer/broadcast divisions by %9-%16 easy

He already has. The way one takes over entertainment is by being entertainment.
