I think I'm going to go ahead and pre-order an AF100 for my personal cam and dedicate my Red to full time 3rd party use. I buy a lot of gear from BH and Adorama, but BH wants the full amount up front (and I'm not willing to do that) and Adorama doesn't have it listed.

Thanks in advance,
Andrew

Try Spec-Comm, Full Compass and/or Abel Cine Tech.

SBL, you'll probably find it a lot quicker if you place a pre-order with one of your local dealers. When we watched the big mad rush on the HVX200 launch, people who ordered with the mega-dealers like B&H were at the end of a hundreds- and hundreds-long list, whereas we'd hear spot reports of people walking into their local dealer and finding it on the shelves.

B&H might have ordered 100 units, and they might have 500 people in line, whereas Texas Media Systems might have pre-ordered 10 and might have 4 people in line, so ...

Very true. While Im fortunate to be near the top of the list at B&H for the AF-100, in 2006 when the Nikon D200 came out, B&H and all the big store's were back-ordered for months. I went in to my small local pro shop and it was sitting there on the shelf.

Barry, or anyone else, do you know any local dealers in Chicago that I could pre-order from?

Where can I find an online list of local dealers? I tried to do a quick google search, but didn't turn up much.

Go to panasonic.com/broadcast and look for the "how to buy" tab in the upper right, and put in your zipcode, and specify the type as whatever's appropriate -- pro video, or AVCHD, or DV/Proline, I think they'll all lead to the same results.

Does anyone know of a place in Seattle that's taking pre-orders? I called Glazer's, but they've been really non-committal about whether or not they'll have it (plus they're prices tend to be kinda high).

If anyone in Portland has a good lead on a dealer I'd love to hear about it. I stopped by ProPhoto Supply yesterday and they gave me a vague "maybe", and something about a deal with Canon to not carry any other brands of prosumer/professional video cameras.

Well I tried the Panasonic Broadcast site, and their info is somewhat out of date. Pro Video and Tape moved to Portland, where their doing pre-orders for $4700. It looks like if I want to walk into a store and buy this camera, I'd have to go out to the boonies.

I called Glazer's again yesterday and they said they will be carrying the AF-100, but they are unsure if the pricing will be closer to $5k or $6k.

If they charge $6k, it better come with a lens.

If you want to buy in Texas, Omega Broadcast in Austin is taking preorders. Texas Media Systems is probably also doing the same. I don't know if MicroSearch in Houston is doing so, but you can give them a try.
