hi....long time lurker...first time poster...

so i plan on buying a camera soon. was pretty much sold on DVX...well...just because...you know why.

but now with the HDX coming out, i'm thinking of waiting.

couple of questions:

p2 card....how do i dump video into a g5 desktop? do i have to busy a PCI card or accessory to so this?

ok...so i've shot and editied (using FCP HD and HD monitor) and am ready to dump for private or public viewing. what do i dump it do and how can it be viewed. there is no HD vcr yet. no HD DVD yet. so what do i do with it? how can other ppl view it?

i want to be ahead or at least along with new tech and i feel HD will be the way to go very soon if not now, so that is why i am considering the HDX. but will i have to wait for other systems to catch up, ie, to dump and view, etc?

btw, thanks for all the info on this forum. a large portion of it has been very helpful.

Your assumption is correct.
There is no affordable delivery system for HD yet. Soon there will be Blue laser and HD-DVD but these technologies are at least two years from being truly affordable for archiving or presenting. As far as viewing from your G5 you will need an HD card. This is about $1000. This is a bit expensive but not the end of the world. You could also just get a second cinema display for playback.
This is why it's so important to have DVCPRO50 in this camera. It allows us to record in a truly professional codec, edit on the equipment we currently have and do real color corrections. At the moment HD is really only viable for teleproduction or filmmaking. It has no advantages if your going back to SD DVD. Unless you want to have it on hand for when the technology catches up.
My 2¢.
