You might need a matte box for that.

Yeah. And AlamDV for the special effects.

I knew it. Damn.
What if I got the Glidecam and some Home Depot lights? Do you think I could make the Ocean 'come alive' as it swallows New York?

For that, you're going to need to shoot in PAL (higher resolution, you know) and probably on a PD170 (for that better low light performance).
Didn't somebody post to forget Home Depot and go with the Lowe's worklights? Maybe those will give you that "ocean swallowing New York" look. Plus, you'll need a scale model of all of New York as well.

My son has a Lego set. I wonder if I built a scale of New York and then spray painted it grey, you know, like the buildings?
You know what, if I use a PAL model, I might get a real cool flickering pan that can mimic lighting strikes!
Lowes? Come now, let's not get cheap.

you could take a picture of the new york skyline, and then cut out the bulidings and rearrange them in 3d space in your freezer for that whole frozen ocean exploration scene. should be pretty easy. just make sure to mov the freezy pops from the back , or else it will give away your trickery, and look bad. i think that maybe you could put the same pictures in a fish tank, and shake it around for that disaster scene. especially if you put some big rubber sharks in there, becuase people are scared of big sharks.

This is the best thread on DVXUser. You guys rock.
The lego thing is good, maybe you could use the little camera dolly from the Lego Movie Studio set to add some real production value. And sharks -- yeah, man, that's the stuff...

what it need to insure good production value for your mega budget, is some popcorn flying out of a hot pan just under a layer of tissue paper so it will burst through, and look liek an ice age storm!! you could mix potato flakes in there too.. and even dump a bag of flour froma ladder up above,, and that would look great!

Exactly!
I also tested out an idea last night. See, I want to have a shot of this flood coming through the city streets and wiping all the people and cars out. So what I did was lay out my 4 year old sons Matchbx Cars in a shoe box, I cut a hole in one end so I could get a real cool shot from the street level of the alley and I turned on the hose of water on full blast. Dude, these cars went flying!
Its a little blurry cause I had my dvx in a Zip Lock Baggy, but I figure in POST I can Sharpen it.

There are some definate city shots that look similar to ID.
Maybe they have always wanted to do those scenes better?

..awsome .. lol..:) man .. you could make an ocean typhoon by just getting a closeup on a couple of cars getting flushed down the lou...(maybe stick one of those sharks in there too!) just have a plunger or plumber ready on hand to pop those cars out if they get all funky in the pipes.

.. you know what.. im really tempted to actaully make a little short film like this .. with everything all "top quality" and such.. just so that i could laugh my head off every time i watched it.
