Is Vitaliy still working on the hack at all? He has not had any new thoughts, information or progress on the Official Hack Thread (http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?206788-GH1-firmware-research-volunteers-required) for 10 days now. I get the feeling we may be at the end of the rope and he is throwing in the towel in regards to the GH1. Hopefully he's just been busy or working in the background.

Overall incredibly happy with GH13 hack's improvements but would have been nice to have seen audio monitoring and/or ext video. Would have made me not feel the need to upgrade to GH2 for a long while (till body price dropped even more).

Anyone else have other thoughts, especially from Vitaliy?

Sometimes it is better to think before posting :-)

I am just very busy.
Plus audio and video fields require hundreds of man hours.
I am experimenting with HDMI. But this is slow and careful thing.

We have only one developer besides me who are working on this project today.
This is another reason of slow progress.

Hope my post wasn't read as frustration :-}

I just hadn't seen any posts recently on hacking progress (which is not the norm) and didn't know if you were retiring GH1 due to the soon to be released GH2. Was kind of hoping I wasn't the only one curious.

Good to hear that you still have interest in furthering GH1 possibilities. I will definitely be donating more if progress continues to be made.

Keep up the good work!

"Throwing in the towel" was perhaps a poor choice of words but I don't think the OP was trying to be rude. I think all of us following this project are curious as to what's coming next, if anything. For awhile there the breakthoughs came at a dizzying pace, and it was all I could do to keep up with trying every new patch and PTool version hitting the transom. Vitaliy, LPowell, CBrandin and others involved in the firmware project have my most sincere thanks for turning my nice little GF1 into a seriously great video camera.

I think it's understandable why things have calmed down. For starters, the new GH1s and GF1s have non-hackable firmware which Panasonic hasn't yet put online for download, so Vitaliy et al can't really dissect what they can't put their hands on. Also, I get the feeling these guys have pushed things about as far as they can go with the current hardware. I'd love to be wrong about this -- full 4:3 sensor FHD output would be splendid -- but frankly these guys have done enough as it is. The existing hack settings deliver jaw-dropping performance, and if things stopped there I'd be perfectly happy.

Again, thank you gentlemen. Amazing work.

+3 They have added about $400 worth of value to my GF1 already. If they stopped now I would consider it a job well done. What is really amazing is that in the current state my GF1 is in right now the firmware appears to be more reliable than any of the new Sony cameras and definitely more reliable than any of the Canon cameras I have ever owned.

That is just astounding that they can create stable hacked firmware that pushes the camera to its limits.

Im new to whole thing and proud owner of hacked GF1.
Reading forum for a few months and didn't post cause everything is explained in simple words.
Now I decided to write my first post and totally agree with Shaveblog.
THANK you V. and all other testers!

+5 And I still hope we will have the 4:3 FHD soon. My 2X anamorphic attachment is waiting to mate with my hacked GH1 .

+6 - As a result of this hack, I do not need GH2, because it is the result worse than the GH13. Also, the GF13 a house number that has become after the hack for me a constant companion. Thanks Vitaliy!!!

I agree the hack has done a lot of good to many of us. Thank U guys, but still I hope to use my Marshall HDMI monitor someday.

It really is a shame that Panasonic hasn't released the 1.34 firmware out in the wild. Probably due to the 3rd party battery hack, but who knows for sure. It really is a shame that in a way they halted progress on this fantastic project.

It really took the GH1 from the worst HDDSLR, to the best one currently on the market. Even with all its pitfalls (FPN crashes)- the 1080p 24 native picture quality is outstanding. The only major hurdle left would be some type of working HDMI output. Even if it doesn't happen, I'm sure the hacked gh1 in its current state will provide years of excellent video as a B cam to almost any other camera that may come along.

Yay good question.. I'd like to know if there is some new cooperation with Panasonic maybe on GH2 firmware ..?

Right now we are unable to get Panasonic managers to talk.
From my sources their general opinion is that GH2 will solve all the problems.
And G1, GF1 and GH1 users are not interesting from commercial side anymore (if they do not want new body).

i guess this sort of answers my question... it actually gives me more pleasure now as i dont need to buy a camera for the next few years, cos i serious doubt anyone will produce a competively priced camera that provides 100mbit 4:2:2. viva la revolucion :)
