I'd assume by the implementation of these forums that the camera is in fact real and coming out soon =) Here's an amateur question though - if it's HD, that means by default it is 16x9 native?

Yes.. it will most definately be 16:9..

As for real... who knows.. but there is nothing wrong with being prepared.

Speaking of being prepared, have you secured the domain name hdxuser.com? :)

Does anyone have any idea on the shape of the HDX100? *Do you think it will be like the ag-dvx100 or a lot bigger like the sdx900 or even the XL2 ... because I shoot mostly extreme sports and huge camcorders aren't that much useful for me...

Jan refered to it as "little".

I can't wait for more news... like when and how much ;D
Do you think we'll have those informations at NAB?

what I'm wondering is the filter diameter because I' going to buy the anamorphic lens, a century optics fisheye and probably a mattebox for my dvx. Don't want to change everything in few months or a year ....

Thats actually a really good point Ronik... the compatibility with DVX accessories.

I hope the equipment will be compatible! If it is and the price is good, they'll be able to convert more dvxuser to hdx....

I think the name should stay like this to prise and homage the DVX!

Regarding whether it'll be seen at NAB... I'd say that's a very likely possibility, since the announcement Steve Mullen made was done at the traditional pre-NAB press conference.

And Jan's teasing us again, but it sounds like she's saying that the camera will be more along the lines of the DVX, and less along the lines of the Super-8 "ray gun" balsa-wood mockup. Well, we can at least *hope* that's what she's saying! ;D

I'm not sure I'd bother with the anamorphic lens at this point. If you're already looking ahead to the new cam, save your $800 toward that purchase.

but I'm also looking for a fisheye and a mattebox... but I agree with the fact that the hdx will have 16x9 chips so I won't need the anamorphic so I just have to save my 800 for that cam.

..why do you need the fisheye. you making extreme sports vids?

This all reminds me of the hardware wars in my childhood gamer days...Basically, the game makers got so wrapped up in what console was coming out next, that very few good games were made for a while and there was a disconcerting feeling by gamers that their consoles would become obsolete tomorrow so why even bother. Companies lost lots of money, and content providers for the companies also gave up doing what they do best. *They have a name for things that aren't in market or produced yet called "vapor-ware".

As exciting as the DVX200 news is, you can bet that Sony and Canon will follow suite with their own HD 24p cameras. *The XL2 is Canon's final SD 3-chip camera in the XL1 lineage, and it's pretty much a closed book that they'll have an HD out too...and don't forget about ever better CMOS tech, and chip/crystal tech.

In fact, 2-D movie-making will gave way to holographic movies that aren't true 3D, but much like what you get out of 2-D holograms today. *Many more movies will come out using "The Matrix" techniques in which actors are scanned in and animated, so that the actors won't even need to act at all but cannot possibly be done with prosumer post-technology like Vegas.

My point is that a filmmaker can get swept away by the current of trying to keep up with contemporary technology, but ultimately the bottom line is the movie itself. * ;)

Perhaps; but we can get excited about the first prosumer-leverl HD cam in 24p, which I'm pretty sure we're all looking at as a holy grail.

Not so sure Sony's going to follow suit (none of their prosumer offerings have 24p), and it might take Canon a *while*.

And if the new camera's anything like the DVX it will still be highly competitive when Canon does get around to releasing something :D

Nothing wrong with a little excitement. While I agree that storytelling should come first, better tools will allow us to reach a broader audience. Call it the democratization of film if you want to put a name on it.

I've been pretty amazed at the quality of work people have produced from the DVX. Really entertaining and moving stuff. It would be awesome to see people produce stuff and have it picked up for distribution. DVCPRO-HD gets all of us one step closer to that.

I've got a feeling this cam is going to have compatibility with DVX accessories and will share much of the same qualities. It's going to be beautiful.

Man, DDH, if the cam is a let down, you're making us all spicy tuna rolls!

Well, one thing is almost sure, the batteries will still be good. Contrary to Sony, Pany's stuff pretty much uses the same battery types. Time to stock up on Jarred's 5000mah DVX batteries. I also wouldn't be surprised that the HDX will have a 72mm thread.
