View Full Version : Why would they do it?
Why would Panasonic come out with a "under $10,000" camera that would require a P2 card for a high price. That kind of camera is not going to be made to replace the DVX100 or compete with the XL2 or the Sony. It would be for the big guys.
Maybe Panasonic will surprise everyone. Maybe that is the idea of this leak. They take everyone down the wrong road then release something else or they release this camera with 32gig P2 cards for under $5,000. Destroying the other guys.
I just don't think they will come out with a camera that cost $8,000 to $10,000 and you have to buy a P2 card that last only 16 minutes for a few thousand dollars. That will only help Sony sell Z1's and Canon XL2's.
They love us DVXusers? :D
Where would we be without Panasonic...

Zim, Jan explained quite clearly thta this camera is not to replace the DVX as we know it now. In fact a new lighter version of the DVX is planned later this year as well. The HDVX is the next step up. IT is to go head to head (according to Jan) with cameras such as the Z1 and in that price range. I'm sure that Panasonic has something special planned as far as the cost of recording media, so don't worry about it.

That wasn't meant to sound sarcastic. I was being genuine there! Where would we be? DVX and now HDX.... wow.
Scharky, HDX I believe. NO HDV here :D

...so that Zim would ask the same questions, over and over, on all the boards... ;)
Because they know the demand is there. The dvx100a will be around for a while for those who want standard definition.

I like to get a balanced opinion and it's only really two boards but thanks for keeping track.

so the bottom line is the hd is not a replacement for the 100 but the new 100 is..............
if they released a new cam without the storage medium being mature enough to be at a realistic price point, they're jumping the gun... i'm sure they've figured something out.
