That camera was a balsa-wood mockup, and bears no relationship to the "HDX" that's likely to be announced at NAB.

Jan,
I suppose you can't answer these question but I'll ask anyway.

Are we getting a more DVX form factor or this Super 8 variant?

Also I'm unclear as to weather there are one or two cameras forthcomeing. It seems to me there will be at least an HD(X) variant using P2 DVCPROHD. But there also seems to be speculation on a 16:9 Native DVX (DVX200) as well. Will the HDX be a hybrid HD/DV or strictly an HD camera with no tape transport at all?

Please be as candid as you feel comfortable with.
Thanks again for all your candor.

Jan's under lockdown, so she can't add any info. However, I can add that it won't be strictly HD, Jan has already confirmed that it will be DVCPRO-HD and DVCPRO-50 and DV. It won't be the Super 8 variant, although we don't know what it will be (shoulder-mount or handheld).

Jan has also said that there will likely be a second camera, a DVX100b, which will be revised to meet new lead-free manufacturing standards. Whether there are any different features from the DVX100A remains to be seen.

Sorry, there are things I can discuss, like workflow on P2, DVCPROHD, DVCPRO50, what are they? how do they work? But the only answers I can give on this new camera specifically is under 10,000, DVCPRO, DVCPRO50, DVCProHD, 24P and on a P2.

Wish I could say more.

Best,

Jan

which is why i'll be at nab checking out the new toys not only from panasonic, but apple's rumored final cut pro 5 release...wow, dvcpro50/dvcprohd+fcp 5=match made in digital heaven. ;D coronas on me...just sit next to me at the keno area waiting for the waitress... :P

The "Super 8 variant" refers to the picture of a balsa-wood mockup camera (look up higher in this thread, for the link Carrington Benz posted). We call it the "Super 8" camera because it has a fold-down handle that looks kind of like an old 70's Super 8 movie camera.

Panasonic made a mockup of a palmcorder and showed it at some shows, but it has no relationship to this new camera we've been discussing.

Gotcha, thanks...

I hope it doesn't look anything like that. I'd like a simple/smaller than normal ENG style.

Honestly, I've shot two feature films, six commercials and four TV Shows with the DVX and have become so enamored with it's control layout that I can't help but be worried. I really just want a 16:9/HD version of the DVX with nothing more but a higher rez LCD for focusing. Oh and a real distance read out for focus too. The audio is the best out there, the zoom and focus are smooth and predictable... It's just a joy to use!

Please panasonic, don't fix what ain't broke.

There really are few companies in this world that I trust to come out with something that is as reasonably close to what we really want as Panasonic... kind of like the opposite of Sony, who you know is never going to give you what you want until you've given up and moved on to the next thing (like "adding" MP3 support to their, um "MP3" player). In Panny we trust...

OK, to me this was one of the funniest DVXUser posts ever, and the only possible response to the 15th posting of those old pictures. Nice one.

Okay, which of our Photoshop whiz kids is gonna be first to stencil an "HDV" logo on the side of that thing?

Remember, Sharp is a member of the HDV coalition too, and we haven't seen their product...

... or Canon...

... JVC's rumored to have a new model as well...

You guys are sick, just sick, with way too much time on your hands. ;-)

Nice job though, looks authentic. Watch this be the next picture that I have to spend time denying that this is the camera.

Jan

The "Leica" badge on the lens was genius. And sticking the P2 card in there... well done! :)

I knew it was fake because it says "AG-HDX1000," not "AJ-HDX100." You think you're foolin' anyone? :o

HDX1000? *Hey, then that's a far more advanced camcorder. *It must be DVCProHD+ at 3572x5734 (using pixel shitt technology) with a bandwith of only 55.34Mpbs (using a highly sophisticated algorithm based on MPEG-57). *It's based on the "newly developed" single SuperFIT CCD at an incredible size of 1/32" for maximum... for maximum.?.. well you got me there... I have no idea how a super high density 1/32" CCD can actually be of any use, other then filming the sun straight on. * ;D
