P2 Cards for the SDX800

Yes, you should be able to plug them into your laptop. *The P2 cards for the upcoming HDX100 and the current SDX800 are the same.

Hmmm ... in that case, given the fact that it looks like the HDX100 will be a 1/3" CCD cam, I will take a second look at the SDX800 ... 2/3" CCD with P2 technology ... If the P2 cards get cheaper it is worth a second look ... 8) ...

2/3" CCD, DVCPRO P2 Technology, 24P/30P ... Hmmmm .... ;D

It's just (ever so slightly) NOT in the same price range though! *;) *But if you're looking for 4:2:2, pro lens, no tape, and 2/3", well yes, that's the way to go. *It's just out of MY price range... ever so "slightly". *:'(

The SPX is not high-def though; it's a standard-def camcorder (hence the "S" in the name, and the "P" is for P2, vs. the SDX900, which is DVCPRO50 on tape and not P2).

SDX and SPX are basically the same camera, except that the SPX records on P2 cards.

And costs about $9,000 LESS.

SPX is about $18,000 or so, I think, and the SDX is around $27,000 (but that's without lens, etc).

My major disappointment is that there is no indication of how to do this on a Mac. I'm working on a pilot for a TV show. If it is successful, I may actually be looking at a SPX800 (because it's cheaper than the SDX900 and doesn't require a DVCPro deck), and this could be a problem (I shouldn't pre-worry - first I have to sell the show).

Now I can sleep well tonight knowing that Firewire (IEEE1394) is optional on the SPX800.
