View Full Version : Full Color Matrix? Update firmware via P2 card?

I really hope we get the ability to manually change the color matrix in this camera. I was disappointed not to see a similar thing in the DVX100/A. Being able to boost or reduce colors to emulate certain film stocks would be a dream come true for me. Not to mention the ability to stop individual color bleeding before going to card/tape on studio shoots.

Having a color matrix in a camera doesn't have to be an expensive item - it's just software. I don't know that much about the way images are processed in cameras (technically at least), but if the colors are already being 'shifted' to emulate a preset film look, surely setting individual color/hue offsets should make no difference to the processing overhead? I hope Panasonic don't 'dumb down' the camera settings - this is a prosumer camera - let's have the ability to change all the settings that professional cameras get like the VariCam. Let's face it, the 1/3 inch CCD's aren't going to rival the VariCam's image, so I don't see a reason to exclude advanced settings. It just gives Panasonic yet another boost above HDV.

Another thing that crossed my mind - would we be able to update the camera firmware via a P2 card? Or will we be expected to splash out on a later 'HDX100A' model? ;)

Oh and one more thing - will a PAL version be released at the same time as the NTSC model? Or will people in the PAL world have to wait?

This is Panasonic's time to shine - and I sure hope they do.

What do you mean that you can't shift the color matrix? I have found the color controls to be quite profound in the DVX. Any imaging problems that you are talking about would be related more to the DV codec than the camera limiting the user.
SInce the HDX will not use the DV codec, most of these problems wont be present, ie. color bleeding or chromatic abberation.
As to your other question, who are you referring it to? The only information released over the camer is that it will shoot 24p and use the DVC *** codec.

For example, on a Sony DigiBeta DVW-700/790/709 you have the following settings:

Matrix R-G
Matrix R-B
Matrix G-R
Matrix G-B
Matrix B-R
Matrix B-G

These can be offset from -99 to +99.

On the SDX900, it's even better - looky here (https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/sales_o/08tech/aj-sdx900/fig06.gif).
