Things went great, nice to have met every one, for the people that could not make it I'll see you next time.

Pile up on things that you would like to do here and we can discuss them with eachother when we meet up.

Freetype anything that is on your mind, It will be a lot easier to have a feel for eachother and understand our goals so when we meet up we will know what is going on and have pre-thoughts about our ideas and opinions...

N.Y.C. DVX is a GO FULL THROTTLE AHEAD SKIPPER...

Well!

First of all, thanks to all of you who were able to make it to the 1st Meeting.
For those of you who were not able to be there, I will brief you here on how the meeting went.
I want to thank Barry S., Peter (Toronto) and Barry Green for their suggestions for the NYC’s meeting. There were 9 of us who showed up, we introduced each other… I can tell you that there is a lot of talent flowing in within the group.

Here is a list of some of the things we talked about last night:

01) Besides the resources available for us in this community, help each other out with technical knowledge (be it, DVX, Lighting, Acting…)
02) Create a group project, tentatively a feature to submit to Sundance or other film festivals (thanks Aram)
03) Individually be committed to make this User Group happen.
04) Get B&H’s discounts
05) Use Soho’s Apple store facility
06) Share with every member of the group our contact information
07) find/get jobs or internship with feature films been shot here in NYC for the members of the group.

To be discussed here:
06) Get a T-shirt or/and nametag
07) What kind of project we will work on.
08) Assign tasks and responsibilities to each member
09) Set a date for the Second Meeting.
10) Start thinking of a possible NYC DVX film festival.

Something for us to be really excited about is that we have film equipment available for us to use… having said that, we could potentially shoot 35mm or 16mm for free… well with the exception of lab processing. We can discuss that here as well.

Over all, the meeting was good. :) and we are all very excited to start working on a project together.

Oh! One more thing… if you have not already sent me your contact information to be added to the list that will be distributed among the group and would like to do so, please go ahead and email it to me. FULL NAME, PHONE #, EMAIL & WEBSITE.
:)

Oh! by the way.

Is any body interested in taking the lead for this User Group. Aram, I'd like to invite you to lead us since you seems to have the most experience and are one of the "Founders" of the this dvx community.

No problem LuzCruz... we know you will be coming from far.

How about on Friday, March 11 in the evening.

Perhaps we can start pre-planning for a feature to submit to filmfestivals all around the world.

If you want to take part of this just say "I'm IN" 8)

Hi all, I cant say that im a founder of this community but have been around pretty close to the beginning of the creation of this site. Leading this would be an honor but Im not the most comfortable person when it comes to talking to large groups. Thats why Im behind the camera not in front of it. ;) Anyway, we can talk about what directions we can go in and start off with little projects to get everyone comfortable with each other and see what our strengths are and our weaknesses. Working on a feature at this point would just waste everyones time. Things WILL go wrong and with a project that big it can make alot of people unhappy. Quality before quantity. I say start off with a 1 minute short and make it a GREAT one minute short and then we move on to a two minute short and so forth. This will help us develope and hone our story telling techniques which is number 1 in my book of things to master before anything else. Maybe everyone has confidence on starting a feature but lets get all of our gears fitted in the right place first. It will be easier to get people to listen to us if we have a few great pieces to show when we ask for support.
Friday March 11th sounds good to me.

hey everybody ;)
how is everybody???first of all id like to say that i really enjoyed our last meeting.i think we can get a lot of things started.unfortunately i do not have time on march 11th :( im in michigan from march 10th til march 20th.im sorry i cant go later because i already booked the flight.
i think aram made a good point when he said that we should start with shorter projects .i think that is more promissing.there is a compettition going on for converse.they are looking for 24 seconds spot.(if the spot is shown youll win $10000).if you wanna check their web page out:conversegallery.com
im pretty sure that there are a lot more competitions and little filmfestivals going on.i will start to write some ideas for that converse thing.if you have any ideas just let me know.
take care....jess

We get some one who looks like a pro basket ball player...

I play against him one on one in the cage in nyc(the public basketball court, the one they hold tournements on(spike lee likes using it for movies))

I call time out becausee i'm losing and i go to the side where my coach(me) will tell me to put on the secret weapons(converse allstar sneakers) and i go back on the court start dunking blocking and completely dominating the game........

The converse thing is a start. I already shot for someone for this and have plans for 2 other shoots for the same contest for myself and for someone else but I see you can submit more than one.

As far as leadership goes, yes there needs to be a voice of the group but i guess we should vote on it to make it fair and not have just one person run the whole show. Being a leader does not mean being the producer.
I have been thinking of the best way to even out who does what on each project so there is not one person always doing the same thing and everyone gets to do something. Everyone here is some type of camera person and theres only one spot unless we do multiple cams. I was thinking maybe we have a rotation either per project or even per shot. The per shot thing would be hard but I think if we sat down and worked out the look and feel we would be able to match everything. It would be a good exercize at the least. Putting someone as director, producer, blah blah blah right off the bat is only going to make people not want to come if they dont get near any of those positions. Every position in a crew has its merits and each should take it seriously when they are given one or when their rotation comes up. If you are the crew hoe for the day then bend over and take it like a man. :)
We should meet at the Film Center Cafe 635 9th Ave. http://filmcentercafe.com/
Its right across from the Film Center building and there are always industry people there.
If so we should make our reservations, they fill up fast.
If our crew stays the size it is, I may be able to use my office conference room for production meetings on the weekends as long as there are no deadlines happening at the time. Its on 42nd and 5th right across from Bryant park. We have a plasma screen here we could view stuff on. But thats only if we have a small crew.

As far as actors go, I say we do casting calls each time we need while we get comfortable with each other and because thats what they want to do, act. They dont want to be producer/DP/director/actor/grip and will focus better. After that, I have access to SAG actors that are willing to help as long as our product is good.

The converse thing is about making a unique short not a commercial for converse. The basket ball thing is the first thing that would come to someones mind. They are looking for out of the box thinking, read the rules on the site and watch all of the movies.

"Converse is looking for you to make a film that "embodies the values and spirit of Converse." If your film is chosen to be used as an ad, you will get $10,000." Converse Inc.

Have you ever seen the Larry Bird, Magic Johnson Commercials? That is the spirit and heart of converse and its products "Athletic Shoes" always has been

Goal for this project, making a dramatic commercial, with me being upset and let down losing, my hero? My coach(me) telling me to use the Secret Weapon, Converse All Star Sneakers to dominate competition, followed by blocks dunks and high flying action, final goal $10,000 and our work and names geting out there geting recognition.

With everything leadership wise i agree we should all move around learn and do what we have to, there werent many posts. I didnt want this stupid whos the leader thing delay our work as a whole so i steped up and said fine i'll be the king.

Whatever gets our gears oiled up and rolling forward im cool with... Just Do It

You didnt read the instructions, under "send in your film/basics" it says clearly DO NOT MAKE A COMMERCIAL. I didnt expect this to start to fly right away anyways. Lets see what happens at the nexrt meeting.

I am going to be really busy up until April 14th. My crew and I are going to enter something in the Amazon.com/Tribeca Film Fest. contest so we are gearing up for production. I can make the meeting though if we are still on.
