Very nice....
It's a good thing I bought my 100a last spring, I guess. Between this, the XL2, and the 100a I'd have no idea what to buy now. Honestly....
Once HDV editing becomes better or Panasonic releases products using a superior format (or P2 cards and any format), I'll go high definition, but not yet. The fact that I don't have any source of steady income now makes this choice much easier! Still, the resolution is impressive.

Here's a frame from the DVX shot in squeeze mode and then uprezzed to 1920x1080. Not bad and I'm sure the anamorphic would be so much better but it's just interesting, nonetheless.

What did you use to up-rez it?
Looks really nice. I can see some artifacts that look a bit like grain, but I like it overall. Nice composition, too!

I used a tool called Photozoom Pro...IAMLOSER turned me on to it. It's a great upsizing tool.

Formally known as S-spline. Now I am just waiting for the next version of that software rumured to support AVI's, won't that be sweet. Although with the pro version you can run a photoshop batch process and then recompile it in after effects, but it sure would save a lot of headache.

You can recompile it in Premiere also but you need a plug-in to support HD * ::)
Apparently, there's no video version of Photozoom on the horizon. It's on their drawing boards but don't hold your breath. *:)

That sucks,
well, in the meentime we can just use it as is. Since everybody seems to be in the uprezzing mood, here is a shot from a short that will be transfered to 35mm in the coming months. It will be shown continuously at a local movie theatre. Just wanted to see how it would look real big. This was shot with the Anamorphic adapter, and it actually looks quite good, well, at least I think so.

For those interested 3 news grabs (1920*1080) from a "functional prototype"...

the resolution is great and it looks clean...but...is it just me...or the dynamic range seems to be very poor ?

I evaluated Photozoom, compared the results to Photoshop, and didn’t notice an appreciable difference. For those of you using it, are you doing so as an alternative to Photoshop or because you get better results?

still confuese as hell about HDV,
:-[
when you guys are going to jump into this new technology?
It seems like it has alot of hardware/software problems to solve yet.
but it seems like it is heading its way to become the new standard.

If you’re not going to deliver your project in HD or potentially film out then I wouldn’t worry about this. If you don’t already own a DVX and you have about six months to wait to see how well HDV performs, then wait. If you have to start production soon and are delivering SD then you can’t go wrong with the DVX100a.
Although there is the potential for a nicer down converted SD image from HDV, it’s probably not worth the additional hassle dealing with MPEG2. It will also be interesting to learn how well the companies who transfer video to film work with HDV. I suspect that the algorithms they are currently using for sharpening and scaling will not work as well with HDV.

OK Fellas, I found another site that has Frame Grabs of the FX1. Sorry, it's in Japanese or something, but they are comparing and FX1 to a Sony HDCAM. I guess you'll need to translate it with Babelfish or something. Anyway, here's the URL:

OMG. That color correction practically made me faint. I think I'm in love (with the FX1)...
Of course, sometimes love turns ugly. Sigh.

This was actually a chroma key test. I think the background image keyed nicely. I only graded it to try and bring it all together.

WOW that dragonfly image looks like crap! The FX1 caps didn't look too impressive by themselves, then we're reminded of their superiority over SD cams!. WOW
