Anyone have experience converting 60i to 24p with dvfilm? I'm curious if the results are as good as 24p advanced on the dvx or xl2. How does this conversion affect sound? I'm curious if it handles deinterlacing well, but am mostly concerned with if it produces a smoothly flowing film look. Thanks. *

Nothing will compare to actual 24P. But if you want to know how well DVFilm's Maker software comes, you can download the free demo and try it on your own footage.

The problem is I don't yet have my own footage. All I have are the various clips from the fx1 floating around the web, and when I try to convert those I get errors. I'm assuming the software doesn't yet support the fx1.

Oh -- you didn't mention HDV... you just said 60i to 24P...

Well, you can still test -- just do it on any NTSC interlaced video. The motion rendition is going to be the same whether it's FX1, Digital Betacam, Digital8, a cheap VHS-C camera, whatever. Any NTSC video will have the exact same motion characteristics, although obviously a better source will result in better end results.

Thanks. I converted a degraded version of an fx1 file that had been converted to .mov and got a feel for it, but of course the file was very rugged and didn't give me an idea of how well it de-interlaces. Does anyone have a copy of a clean file that they have processed with dvfilm that I could look at or even a really clean quick time file of 60i footage I could borrow to test with myself?

Hey Deron,

I'll send you a PM with a link to some 60i and 24P footage that I shot for the DVX DVD. Nothing special, just some panning in the park. But it should prove illustrative for you, because it was shot by two cameras strapped to each other, shooting the identical scene, one in 60i and one in 24P, so you could see how the 24P conversion would fare against the "real deal"...

Wow. That's great. Thanks Barry.

Hi, is this 60x24 footage in the book? If not, could you send me the link also?
Thanx.

It is on the DVD, yes.
