Dear Folks:
From what I've read:
1- The FX1 has no progressive mode but it can produce 24 fps by using an in-camera DVFilm like process.
2- 24 frames can be extracted by an NLE and can be edited on a 24 fps timeline
3- The quality of these frames is remarkably good
Is this what everyone else has been gathering?

Almost.
1) correct.
2) No NLE does this yet (that I know of), but I can't see why they wouldn't be able to soon in the future. You could extract it using AfterEffects.
3) No, pretty much everyone is saying that it's not up to par. They're all impressed with the 30P simulation, but much less satisfied with the 24P simulation.

Regarding question #2:
I thought that the (fake) 24 frames are recorded to 60i with a standard 2:3:2:3 pulldown. If this is the case, CinemaTools (included with Final Cut Pro) could remove the pulldown and create either 24fps or 23.98fps video that can be edited on either a 24fps or 23.98fps timeline.
I seem to remember someone saying that Vegas could remove standard pulldown as well, but I've never used Vegas and might be misremembering.

I'm not sure that that is the case -- Barry?
By the way, standard pulldown is 2:3. 2:3:3:2 pulldown is new with the DVX.

Yeah, he said 2:3:2:3 which is standard...
The FX1 records it as 2:3 pulldown. Never used CinemaTools, but if it works at high-def resolution then yes, that should be able to remove the pulldown and convert it to 24fps. However, the quality of that 24fps, and the timing of it, is still questionable.
Vegas can remove 2-3 pulldown from DV files, but not from HDV files yet. I'd look for an update from them soon that should handle it.
