For those considering switching or supplementing their DVX for/with an FX1, I wonder whether we will have to buy in all new MB's, rod assemblies follow-focus rigs etc as it does appear the DVX ones will not be compatible.

The on-board mic does extend much further than the DVX, making it impossible to mount the Chrosziel MB and I assume other makes without longer rods, and the base mount for the DVX is highly unlikely to fit the FX1 unless we are very lucky.

So it appears the initial layout may, as usual, be only the start of the cost to properly kit out this camera. However, the accessories are starting to appear and I've still got my Van Diemen Mosquito MB.

With a bit of luck in may not be as bad as you are imagining. The similarities in the lenses (both 4.5mm at wide angle and 72mm filter thread) and the size and configuration of the Sony HDV and Panasonic DVX100/100A may mean that only some additional accessories (like a cone to move the Mattbox forward of the mike) or a modification to the base plate if you have a 15mm rod system (ok worst case a new support but maybe not)will allow the Mattboxes and filter holders you currently have for the Panasonic to be used on the Sony.

One of the big questions in our mind is the suitability of existing optical accessories (wide angles, fisheyes, tele's) for use on the much higher resolution format. We are hoping to get a camera tomorrow and begin testing.

We will keep you informed of what we find out. The bayonets on the front of the lens are similar to those on the Panasonic, but not the same of course. We feel using the bayonets to mount heavy accessories is far better than using the fine 72mm threads, but it does limit interchangeability.

Just an update,

We (at Century) purchased an FX1 have done some preliminary testing. Looks like existing matteboxes and shades will work with some adaptation, maybe as simple as some new holes in the support plate, depending on whose you have.

As has been discussed it is a 72mm thread and the lenses are similar. The Century .6X wide angle, 1.6X tele and fisheye can be adapted via a new bayonet lock ring and work well optically.
This means units made for the Canon XL and DVX could be converted but not used interchangeably (the bayonet is different)

The current Century .7x is probably not suitable for use on this camera, more on that when we have more info.

I modified our Century DVX100 mattebox to fit the FX1... took a little machine shop work to expand the adjustement slots, but it looks and works great... will post an image when i get a chance....
