has anyone any feed back on the audio of the fx1 - was told by B&H rep that the mic on camera isn't that good at all - suggested beachtek XLR adapter and Sennheiser *shotgun mic - also since fx1 only has one hot shoe the mic would kill opportunity to use light if needed - maybe i should wait for the z1? - or say the heck and bite the bullet and go canon xl2.
all feed back would be greatly appreciated
would like to have by x-mas [fingers x-ed]

Well... on-camera mics are bad in general for any class of camera. FX1 is consumer model, so you really can't say you're going to buy XL2 instead. I'd wait for Z1 model for sure if you need HD capability, then otherwise, XL2 is excellent choice for 24P.

yea i realize that xl2 and fx1 are totally 2 different animals [pro vs consumer] but my figuring was if i was to jump to z1 im in the same catagory as the xl2 - i spoke to some guys who shoot indepent films and they stated that they would not get on the HD band wagon yet - which prompts me towards the xl2

Really? I heard opposite from some film guys who'd wish they shot Z1 for its high resolution. Now they are stuck with SD video that they need to blow up to film res.

For shooting film stuff, I'd vote for DVX first, XL2 a close second, and wouldn't use the FX1.
The Z1 may be more promising, it remains to be seen how well CineFrame 25 holds up for resolution under motion, but in still shots it looks pretty good.

ok that helped clear the air a lil - now being as im only able to spring for one cam for now [maybe a while] and may possibly be working w/the guys shooting films along with the usual household daddy stuff - possibly weddings - i guess it would be safe to say that xl2 or dvx would be better suited for an all around job?
no metter what dv you are going to shoot - the double system with better recorder is nessesery to get begood sound resolution

well it seems that i may be leaning towards th xl2 - if the z1 was available now that would probably be the one - but kinda pressed for time here

Renting XL2 and FX1 prolly cheaper. than buying one camera over another, then later deciding to sell it at a lost.
