hi,
I am new to this board and I would like to say hello to everyone.
I just have a quick question.
what is this .m2t?
Is this uncompressed, straight out of tape file for HDV, like .avi for DV?
and when is this new plug in for PP1.5 comming out?
You think this will allow users to capture .m2t?
or do we still have to use CapDVHS?
thanks,
happy new year

Here's a 112MB .m2t if you want to check it out.

M2t's are transport streams as captured to tape. I'm not sure anybody's going to want to edit .m2t's directly. You'll probably want to convert them to something less processor intensive for editing. My guess is that Apple will be using H.264 in the upcoming TigerOS.

Yes, .m2t's are the direct data straight off the tape, just like a DV .AVI file is a direct copy of what's on a DV tape.
Some editing programs can read .m2t files natively; Vegas is one. You can put a .m2t file right on the timeline. However, as Sam said, it's extremely processor-intensive; on my P4 2.66GHz, I get about 4 to 6 fps playback speed from .m2t's. That's why companies like CineForm are offering an intermediary codec, transcoding to a much-less-processor-intensive codec which is more responsive for editing. Using the native .m2t will represent the highest-quality source footage you can get from an HDV camera, but the Cineform codec looks extremely similar, and provides for much more responsive editing.

resurecting this thread form like page 16..lol, I just ordered an FX1 from b&H and i'm excited to test it out. So if you have PP 1.5 or 2.0 you can capture from the camera ( footage shot in 1080i )? and edit from that point?
I'm just confused on what to do once the footage is shot.
I have Premiere Pro but a version 7.0. It came as part of a education bundle. There is no settings for HDV though. Just 720 x 480. If i go into custom settings I can set the resolution to whatever you want.
Just the questions I have are these:
1) How is capturing different with HDV
2) When you do capture does it show up as m2t?
3) how easy is it to mix formats, like SD with HDV?
4) How do you downconvert?
There might be lenghy answers to these questions, and maybe there might be a link that I can follow instead. I just have been searching and can't find the answers myself. :/
