Here's a link to some HDR-FX1 footage in case you haven't seen it. Pretty impressive night camera. Especially the boat shot.

Oh, I forgot to mention that you'll need a movie player program called VLC to view this. For some reason QuickTime won't open it.

some pretty nice footage there. i can tell it was pretty compressed, but im sure the original is much sharper. Still looks like video to me though, but then again, that's exactly what it is *:P

BTW worked fine on media player for me

When I tried using WM9 it gave me an error message - "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The file may be formatted with an unsupported codec" - does anyone know where I can download or upgrade WM9 with the right codec?

I would like to view this footage.

WM9? You should get WM10, it's free you know ;)

I held a working demo version of Sony's "PRO" HDV camera (so called "PD 190") in my hands last week. Not the HDR-FX1 consumer version. but the upgraded "PRO" model. Very impressive. The video, when played back on a 32" plasma set looked beautiful and robust with all of the detail that you'd expect from a 1080i camera with this size CCD chipset. The lens was quite sharp too. The "filmlook" pulldown setting pretty much duplicated the 24p look of the DVX except its in 1080i.

The physical structure of the camera itself seemed considerably more substantial than the plastic feel of my DVX100A. They added the XLR connectors on the lower right side, front approximately where the DVX has its connectors. This camera also records in standard def miniDV. There's a small switch right near the rec button to switch record modes from 1080i to DV.

S3X...

Sobe, can you comment on the method of 24p? I was under the impression that it was just removing every (5th?) frame from recording...

So are the xlr inputs worth the extra $3000? or are there any other differences?

;) chris

Specs have not been released officially, but dvinfo.net has compiled a list of about 40 differences.

This is a really old thread. You can find plenty of more recent FX1 footage with a search.
