Could have been 15 minutes shorter if they had simply left out the Ken Burns photo suites. Didn't add a thing to the movie and in fact slowed it down considerably.

I agree completely. I thought it was a very good film but am puzzled by the Oscar Nod.

And they could've left out some of the fake horse heads bobbing up and down and saved another 15 minutes (not to mention it would've made the movie more "real").

True that.
I wasn't to mesmerized by the race scenes; they were 'pretty' but I have already seen it in The Black Stallion.

Overall, I wasn't impressed. There was was gorgeous scenery and imagery, but there was no rhythm to it. They glossed over several moments they should have dwelled on and drudged through very slowly a few scenes which should have been about a minute long.

Didn't understand the photo interludes. Instead of 3-4 minutes of shots of mexico and the guy with history channel voice talking about it's the only place to get booze and hookers could one of his friends have told us that.
