A few people have asked for it and I totally agree.. This board is long overdue and if anyone besides Barry wants to help moderate send me a pm.

Sweet! I'm assuming this is about CG Special Effects, not practicals right? (squibs, maroon cans, blood packs, etc)

It seems to be both (from what the little description of it was)

I'm gonna go ahead and say both.

Let's discuss special effects in post as well as in the classical sense.

Thanks Jarred! This'll become a busy category, I predict - questions don't necessarily have to be limited to AE, Combustion, Maya, etc.

I work extensively in post fx, including compositing, color-grading and 3D - so I'll do my best to help out.

With all the questions about gun fight sequences and such this board is a great thing to have...

special effects in post are called visual effects. specials effects are physical ones done on the day of a shoot...gun shots...explosions. the visual effects title contains things like 3d/compositing/2d manipulation/green screen...all that stuff. obviously stunts is a completly different thing as well but is more bundled in with special effects then with visual effects.

i honestly feel like both special and visual effects warrant their own topics, but, if you going to have them in one topic the correct terms should be used. can we maybe change the topic name to visual effects/special effects/stunts or something like that?

Curugon, you work(ed) on Ancanar yes? Just want to make sure I have the right person :)

Ah cool :). I remember hearing something about reshooting the film. Are you guys going to be working with the DVX?

I was (am) impressed with the footage you guys managed to pull out of that Canon XL1. With color correction, keying, and other effects it looks quite superb. In fact, it was Ancanar that inspired me to get off my butt and finish the script to a feature film I have been working on. Shows what you can do with a good script, some skill, and DV equipment!

Do you guys have any dates (roughly) set for completion?

Cheers, Shaw! How's that project coming?

I'll try to veer us back on topic by saying yes, Ancanar was originally shot on an XL-1 for under 30k, but now thanks to a growing fanbase we've caught some studio attention - allowing us to reshoot the film on a bigger budget; translating to better FX, locations... overall production design. :D

Sorry I can't give a completion date - keep an eye on our website.

Forgot to mention: no, we won't be filming on the DVX - probably high def. The DVX will be used for promos, interviews, doco stuff.

Hi Curo -

I saw that work with the Xl1 and it is very impressive. Reinforces that its not the camera its the cameraman!
